Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
After much frustration at finding my original notes and info in someone
else's gedcom, also on ancestry and in other web sites I finally figured out
how to get around it.
I've figured out how to do a Family Group sheet in text form, cut and
paste it to email and give that. I give only on the family that they are
asking about nothing more nothing less. When they come back for more we
discuss their options and I have time to think about mine. I enjoy sharing
but "click and claim" drives me insane!
Just my .02 worth...

Ah heck
It was going on long before that, they just had to do more than cut and
paste!
For example: type it in; copy it on a copier.

be careful who you share with. And perhaps ask a question or two.

The question of shady use of GEDCOMs comes up from time to time.
Genealogist are, for the most part, a giving group. We are willing to
share our research with just about anybody who asks for our help. This
generous trait is taken advantage of by dirtbags who are too lazy to do
their own work so they can make a fast buck.
I've found it is best not to give out all you know on the first contact.
I put my information in outline form and had been willing to share with
anyone who asked. Now I'm a little more careful who gets a copy. I've
found my hard work on web sites I didn't know existed along with my name
and e-mail address. But the ones I really love are those who take your
information and never say thank you! You never hear from them again.
This business of 'borrowing' the work of others is not new. It was
going on big time on Prodigy ten years ago.

Hi all -
It has come to my attention that a personal e-mail message of mine

Good morning to all, the long winter and long overtime work hours are behind
us, for the most part, and we are now going full force with the Gathering
business.
This message is to bring everyone up to date with the progress of the
Gathering plans.
First on the agenda is there has been a slight change in the address of our
Clay Family Gathering Page, there was a server change, the only difference is
the addition of a tilde, the new address is as follows:
http://ccainc.net/~clayfamily/index.html
Bob has also told me the registration form is not working correctly right
now, but he is working on it, so if you or someone you know want to register,
he will have it back up shortly.
We are receiving quotes and rates on motel and conference rooms, Nancy
Acord-Greathouse is our chairman for this project and is doing a fantastic
job, I do not think she is leaving many stones unturned. She has been in
contact with quite a few places trying to get us the best possible deal.
Thank you Nancy for all of your hard work!
I am beginning our Speaker schedule, we need you to sign up for a talk on
your branch of the family, local history, other genealogy topics. Each
speaker will be allotted about 30 minutes for their talk and a question and
answer period. If you will need more time, let me know that when you make
arrangements for your talk, and I will allot more time.
I am also working on a workshop schedule, if you would care to help out with
this, please let me know so I can sign you up. We are looking for workshops
on Clay family topics and genealogy in general topics, come on and tell us
how you do your genealogy, have preserved your family cemetery, or family
belongings. We need your help.
We will have 2 teenage girls to help entertain your children during meeting
hours, let us know how many children you are bringing and their ages so we
can be prepared for them. These girls will be doing the entertaining on a
donation basis.
Another by donation project we have is boat tours of the James by our cousin
Steve Smith, he will have schedules for you to sign up, it will be first come
first serve, you will be able to sign up the first day of the gathering. This
is a trip you will not want to miss!
Don't forget to send your family work sheets to Karen Krugman to be included
our family history data. Also, everyone that has send Karen or is going to
send Karen their family information, would you mind if we put the data on The
Clay Family Gathering Page? Please let me know if you give your permission.
We will be gathering a great deal of information in the next few months, so
keep your eyes out for updated data on the page, if you have any ideas,
suggestions, please let me know, Anyone willing to help out with the speakers
and workshops be sure to let me know, so that I may schedule you, I want to
thank each and everyone of you for helping us make this a great gathering.
If you receive this more than once, I am sorry, I am trying to cover all
bases,
Gynger Cook

Hi Libby:
I received your genealogy package today. Thank you for sending it. After
looking at it several times, I think I see where we connect. Looking at
your Generation 7: (11) Thomas Clay & Anne POWELL Clay their sixth child
Thomas Clay, II, b. 1760, is my gggg grandfather.
Your link is John Moore Clay who was the first child of Thomas & Anna
POWELL Clay. So our gggf were brothers.
Thomas Clay II, who married Athlinda Unknown is still a mystery. Another
Clay cousin and I have been trying to find a marriage record for this
couple. I have census records for them from several census's but that's all
I've found so far.
I didn't have all of the names of the children that were born to Thomas Clay
& Ann POWELL Clay. My you have done lots of work and research. I revised
my research and took out anyone who was not direct link to my line. I did
this because I kept getting lost in all of the Clays and Clay cousins. Mine
isn't full document because I did a poor job of recording the data. So I'm
still in the process of documenting (which means sorting through stacks of
pages in notebooks).
You seem to have incorporated all of my Clay line into your research. I can
give the names of James Tolbert Clay's children and of Stephen Clays (my gf)
children if you want them. My Grandfather's line doesn't have any males left
to carry on the name, which is sad.
I don't seem to be able to remember what I was going to send to you, if
anything. I've been in touch with so many researchers relating to several
lines that I am a little confused.
Have you read any of the research articles written by Robert Clay? He is a
geneaalogist/librian at the UN of VA Library. I believe that I have a copy
of one of his articles if you would like to have it I'll send it to you.
Thanks again,
Linda Clay Ost

Hello Linda,
I am happy that you received the package and found it useful. I enjoy
sharing my information. So many researchers are so selfish with their
information and do not want share, but I had met some very nice distant
relatives and they have been very helpful and sharing.
I would be please to receive any Clay information that you have down to the
latest grandchild. I would also like to have the article by Robert Clay.
There was five male siblings in my father's line and my dad and one of his
brothers had all girls. My dad had two boys that died young. There are very
few male Clays left in my line.
I hope that you enjoy and find useful the information that I sent you.
Regards,
Libby
Thanks Mary Anne. I had not seen this before. Although I am still unable to
make a connection, it makes me think I am still on the right track.

I've put this up before but there may be new people who are unaware of
this. When you find Green in a Clay name, most (but not all) of the
time it indicates a descent from three of the children of Henry and Mary
(Mitchell) Clay. Henry Clay married Lucy Green, Charles Clay married
Lucy's sister Martha and Amey Clay married the uncle of Lucy and Martha,
William Green. All of the Greens were descendants of Thomas and Martha
Green who emigrated from Holland (English family in Holland to escape
religious persecution.)
If you have a Green, try going back to one of the above. It might help
to come DOWN to your Green from Lucy or Martha. If you are looking for
Doctor Green Clay (that's Doctor as a first name, not title) I have his
parentage. Most charts stop before you get to NC and Doctor's family.

Sandra or anyone,
Is there anyway to find out, whether or not my John, could be linked to one
of these John's? I know he had to be born, sometime before 1800, because my
descendant Jackson Monroe Sr., was born in 1812. He was the 4th child of
John, and Diallia Morris, according to the info I have. Their youngest son
was Green B. Since his name, was John, and the Green name appears, which was
carried on to my great-grandfather, Joseph Green, could these be the same
family, as the ones you have listed below? Or could it all just be
circumstance? I feel like I am running in circles, and getting nowhere. Any
advice?
