Angela,
I believe your Solomon Clay is son of Caleb Clay (abt 1749-1786) of Halifax
Co VA (wife unknown). My line is Caleb Clay b. abt 1786, m. Sarah Morrison
1808 Patrick Co VA, who was also in Floyd Co KY in 1820 census, but he
moved on...was in Tazewell Co IL 1830, and was in Johnson Co AR by 1837.
Sorry I don't have any information on descendents of John Clay s/o of Solomon,
but all indications are your Solomon, my Caleb and also Jordan that was in
Floyd Co were brothers.
Hope this helps,
Vi

I don't know your lady but I have a number of Burnsides m into my lines, they
were from Scotland early 1700s, of course her mom could be Indian
~S
Could someone tell me if Henry Clay had a sister by the name of Elizabeth?
Or
Was there an Elizabeth Clay born around 1770's who married Nicholas Hardin?
Thanks.
Hello,
Just taking a stab at this and a wild chance you might know something
about a HONOR HARPER BURNSIDE, she married HENRY CLAY they died in Boyd Co.,
Ky. She was supposed to be full blooded Cherokee and I have a old picture
and she does appear to be. I do not have any proof of this except her
grandson is the one who told me.
She was born in 1803 died in 1894 her father was born in MO. I know it
is sketchy information but just a wild chance you can help..
Thanks in advance

I just joined this list. Was wondering if anyone has CLAY relations that have Cherokee heritage. If so, please let me know!
My Cherokee CLAY ancestors settled in OK in IT. I have my CDIB card, so I am not guessing my heritage...just to let you know.
Thank you for taking the time to read my note!

The name that is familiar to me is not one of the children, but David's middle
name. I also have a Melton line that was in NC for about a hundred years. It's
not a common surname. Where was David born? If in NC which county?

I have a Henry H CLAY b c 1844 s/o Henry Clay and Honor Harper BURNSIDE, who
married Mary Jane CHAFFINS c 1865. They can be found in the 1870 census
enumerated next to Honor CLAY, Isaac CLAY and Andrew HOGAN.
Two questions. 1 Does anyone have any idea who Mary Jane CHAFFINS parents
are? 2 Henry and Mary Jane are no where to be found by 1910, but are know
to be alive as late as 1925 according to family history. One report is that
they moved to WV, but I have been unable to locate them in any census.
Children of Henry H CLAY and Mary Jane CHAFFINS
Dennis b c 1867
Daisy L b c 1868
Manda M b c 1869
Honor b c 1871
Jerome F b c 1877
John b c 1879
Isaac b c 1881
John and Isaac are living with Manda and her husband John L Brown in the 1910
census Greenup Co KY.
I know there is some info on the Hardens in Washington Co........ Ga. but
lots of records have been lost because of fires. Have never found any proof
of David Clay being son of William Mitchell or Mitchell Clay that name does
not run in the Clay families of Washington or Wilkinson Counties, Ga. Do you
live in GA? There was book written about the families of Ga. but have not
found it all to be true. It does list the Hardens in it to. Cannot remember
mans but he was related to the David Clay's and most of it is heresy, but
may give you places to follow. If you have not read it will try to find his
name for you. Loraine Griffin
I have a David Melton Clay b. 1837 Md. Frances O'Bannon on 30 Jan. 1850,
supposelly they moved to La. His parents were Peyton & Nancy Jones, his
brothers and sisters named were:
Lawerence W.
Martha
Edmond William
Narcissa
Sarah ( Sallie)
Have not looked up David M. Clay in the census so do not know when he moved.
Do any of these names sound familiar. Loraine Griffin
Korene, I keep running into all kinds of James M. Clays in my checking back.
Could you let me know something of the linage of the James Munro Clay you
mentioned?

I have just come from a reunion of the James Munro Clay family. We had a
great time and loved meeting new family members and finding out how much we

Let us know what we can can do to assist and when and where.

Lorraine,
I have a slight name thread, albeit somewhat nebulous. I am looking for
David CLAY, born 1856 Alabama. In my info, I have David's daughter marrying
a CAMPBELL and have a HOLLAND marrying into same family CAMPBELL in the
1850's Lawrence County, Alabama. Long shot, maybe worth 1/2 penny bet. Any
of your ancestors make the trek to Alabama.

Hi! I have been monitoring the Clay Mailing list for the past six months.
Working on my Clay line in Iowa and Pennsylvania. There has not been much in
either state. I would like to survey everyone on the Clay Mailing List who
has Clay's in Iowa and Pennsylvania before 1900. I want to see how many
people like me are out there.
Thank You.
