Does anyone out there know where Panola, KY and Carico, KY are? Also, where
might I find a divorce record in the 1890's, probably Jackson County, KY?
Thanks for any help.

Miller genealogy info shows that Martha Clay ( daughter of Nicholas Clay)
married John Miller. They moved to Missouri with George Frederick

Millersville and the Miller Family, list the children of John and Martha as
Jacob, Issac, Henry, Abraham, Dan, Joseph, Nicholas, John Clay, Hannah,
Katie, Sophia, and Susie. These names certainly suggest the Klee/Clay
conncection but were common in many families.
I wonder if anyone out there has done extensive work on Nicholas Clay in
Lincoln County.

I would appreciate any response, as I am still confused as to whether
Johann Nicholas Klee and Nickel Klee/Nicholas Clay are the same or related.
Please enlighten me. Thanks so much!

Hi Patty ......My E-mail address is correct......it must be the cold
weather we are having in Canada......your message must have stopped at the
border!!!!!!! Patty.....my Clay family is not related to HENRY CLAY......
you are right three brothers spread out with the Clay geneology.......and
my line settled in Alberta Canada...........Jacob Clays grandson Cyrus
Norton Clay......is our direct line....and as I showed you in the material
I sent......the Klee/Clay dates back to 1535......Later Kaye
Kaye McKenzie, when I tried to e-mail you directly it is sent back to me as
undeliverable mail. Hopefully you'll see this on the Clay List. Any
others with anything to add, PLEASE do so. I can use all the help I can
get. Thanks so much.
Kaye,
Thanks so much for all the info. you sent. Honestly at this point
I'm not sure how I fit in. I can tell you that after looking up that info.
and the info. you sent, I undoubtedly believe that my Clay family comes
through this German line. I spent the last year or so trying to find out
how my Clay line was related to Sen. Henry Clay. According to a history
book in Lincoln Co.,Missouri where my line ended up going, it stated that
my GGG Grandmother Mary Clay b. 1795 Lincoln Co.,NC was a cousin to Sen.
Henry Clay of Kentucky. Mary's father was Abraham Clay b. between 1760 and
1770 (probably about 1764). I'm not sure what state he was born in,
possibly NC or another before his father moved to NC? Abraham is in the
1790 Lincoln Co, NC census and the only other Clay in that county is
Nicolas Clay with 3 males over age 16 and 1 female. Abraham has 1 male
over 16 and 3 females. This undoubtedly is Abraham with his wife, Mary
(Jones) Clay and daughter Catherine b. 1790, but unsure who other female
is. Abraham Clay and Mary Jones were married Dec. 11,1789 Lincoln Co.,NC.
I believe that Abraham had at least a brother and a sister there, but
nothing proven. I believe the brother is Isaac Clay and the sister is
Susan Clay. Isaac Clay married Barbara Seagle Nov. 18,1793 there. Abraham
named his youngest son Isaac. I believe Susan may be his sister, as he
gave surety for her to marry John Sigel (Seagle, Barbara's brother?) Nov.
27,1792 there. Abraham also named one of his daughters Susan. I have in
my notes from a book called Newspaper Abstracts from Georgia that Nicholas
Clay died in 1803. In court papers for Lincoln Co.,NC Isaac was appointed
Executor for Nicholas' will. In the records for April 1805 he is listed as
settling Nicholas' estate. Isaac then died leaving behind his wife and
children. Again in 1807 the court of Lincoln Co. appointed 3 men to settle
his estate. I have not seen a copy of his will, etc. But from what Lois
Perkins says, the will has disappeared and there is no paperwork left. I
wish I had this. It seems to me that I read that it was in the NC
Archives, so I'm not sure if that's where it disappeared, or in the county.
Anyway, I do have a land record for Nicholas Clay which states that he is
from Cumberland Co., PA and purchased land in Lincoln Co. NC in 1769. I
figure Nicholas has to at least have been born about 1740 to be 20 in 1760,
since I know that Abraham was born between 1760 -1770. Nicholas could've been
older depending on where Abraham fits in chronologically in his children.
Do you know of this Nicholas Clay? Isaac's marriage record in one book has
written Isaac Clay with (Cley) in parentheses next to it. Do you have
anything on
Johann Nicholas Klee and Lisa Margaret Staudt's oldest son Abraham? He
was born
1739, about my Nicholas' age possibly. Could Nicholas have been his middle
name? Just
curious. Since Abraham seems to run in this family I thought perhaps
there's a connection. Do you have anyinfo. on Johann Nicholas Klee's
people? Parents,
names of brothers? According to the book I mentioned Nickel Klee and
Theobald Kleh, from
Rehweiler left for Carolina in 1738. Isn't this a different Nicholas Klee
than your Johann Nicholas Klee? What do you think? Could they be related?
Well, I guess
I've wrote too much already. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!
