Hello, Clay researchers.
I'm still seeking information about Percibal Clay of Duplin/Sampson Co.,
NC who moved to Washington Co., GA c1790. He may be related to Sarah Clay
who married Henry Holland in Duplin Co., NC in 1783; the Hollands also moved
to GA about the same time as Clay. Any clues appreciated.
Hello all. I am still seeking information on who the parents of Abraham
Clay are. He is my gggg grandfather. He married Mary Jones in Lincoln
County,North Carolina on Dec. 11,1789. Joseph Jones is listed as surety.
Is this Mary's father or brother ? I believe Isaac Clay was Abraham's
brother. He married Barbara Seagle. And Susanah Clay married John Sigel.
Abraham as surety. Abraham did name a son Isaac and a daughter Susan.
Isaac is listed as the Administrator for Nicolas Clay's estate in 1803.
But in court records of Jan. 1807 John Wilfong, David Ramsour and Jacob
Carpenter made committee to settle the estate of Nicholas Clay. Abraham was
in KY by then. I believe Nicholas is the father of Abraham. If so, fore
coming to Lincoln Co., NC, lived in Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania. He
purchased 456 acres of land from John Potts Jan. 6 & 7, 1769. Does anyone
know who Nicholas was married to? How is Nicholas related to the Virginia
Clays? Abraham's daughter Mary was my ggg grandmother. It is listed in
several history books of Lincoln Co., Missouri (where her and her husband
George Jameson settled) that she is a cousin to the famous Henry Clay of
Kentucky. Nicholas would've probably been born about the 1740s. Does
anyone have a clue as to who his father could be? Abraham lived in Lincoln
Co.,NC until about 1800. He then moved to Lexington, KY. About 1829/30 he
made another move to Montgomery Co., MO. His children were: Catherine,
Mary b. 1795 NC, Nicholas, Green H., Ann, Sarah, Abraham J., Susan,
Elizabeth Anne, Isaac. Green and Nicholas may be the same person.
Nicholas may be Green's son, as they are both listed in the Missouri
Republican and Salt River Journal Newspapers in Missouri in 1832 and 1840
respectively. Green in not listed as an heir in 1840, so perhaps he died
and Nicholas inherited his portion. Catherine married Alexander Douglas,
Mary to George W. Jameson, Ann to Thompson Butler, Sarah to Benjamin Bryan,
Abraham J. to Rachel White, Susan to William C. Rainey, Elizabeth Anne to
Samuel McChesney, then ______Remmington, and Isaac to Mary (Fields?). Any
help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance forany help, Patty (Jamerson) Archer

Hello,
While through some of my grandmother's things, I found an eyeglass case
with the following imprinted on the front:
Jim Clay Optician
221 Frank Nelson Building
Birmingham, Alabama
Phone 3-6328
Does anyone have any idea who this might be? My grandmother was married to
Calvin Griffin Clay, son of William Charles Clay, grandson of James Griffin
Clay, great-grandson of Levi Clay. As far as I know my Clays were from
Bollinger Co., Missouri and were not from Alabama.
If you have any input about this, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Hi Myra, Our line comes from Capt. John Clay that came to VA on the ship
"Treasurer" in 1613 and married Anne Nicholes of the ship "Anne" and their
descendents so there could be a John from any of the descendents. We will try
and explore further when I get my Clay papers out or if I can find the website
again! Just wanted to get back to you so that you would know I got your message!

I'm sure everyone is enjoying and appreciates the work the ladies are putting
in by transcribing the fiche of the Diaries. I would like to note that while
the Diaries are a good working tool, they should be used as such - a working
tool. Please remember that Rev. Dickey wrote these diaries quoting various
people as he traveled in his ministry. Some are old family stories handed
down and many are from memories of older people. Nevertheless, the
information in the Diaries is important and may provide the key to your lost
ancestor. Errors are inevitable, so please check out the data through other
sources.

Hi C. Gautreaux, it depends on which Clay clan they are from. I'm
looking for ancestors/descendants of John Clay(1825-1876)from
Manchester, England and Jane Gilbert(1829-?) from Antrim, Ireland
>who married in 1851 nad settled in Cty of Delaware, PA, USA.
Their kids were Mary, Henry, John,Jr, Jane, Maria, Katie (my husband's
great grandmother). Incidentally, do you know the Clay family from New
Orleans? Mickey SMICKEYI(a)HOTMAIL.COM

Dear Paul, Welcome to a facinating experience of searching and sometimes
finding! But we need your Dad's name, birth date and place , marriage to whom,
date and place, death (if applicable) date and place. You gave us Boone Co., is
that KY or NE? and is Lincoln in what state? Those facts will give us help in
searching census records, place histories, etc. but we do need dates and
places, all the info you have.
My ancestor, James Mastin Clay was born in VA, March 4, 1810, his first five
children were born in Ohio between 1840 and 1850 to his 1st wife Rebecca who
died about June 1, 1863. He married 2nd Sarah Ann Franklin, September 5, 1837
Knoxville, Tenn.
about 1865.
they had five children between 1867 and 1876, the first four born in Illinois,
the last born in TX. James Mastin Clay d. January 11, 1890 and Sarah Ann
Franklin Clay d. December 24, 1919, are both buried in Barton Chapel Cemetery,
near Perrin, Jack County, TX. Do you find any dates or places that overlap,
connect, in my line? Keep searching. Katrina Burdine Clay Rhoads

Dear Myra, The oldest son of my elusive (I like that adjective because it
really fits) James Mastin Clay by his first wife Rebecca, was named John Henry
Clay b.October 21, 1840 in Greene, County Ohio according to a Logan County, East
Lincoln Township, Illinois historical account. These two could not be the same,
mine just being born at the time you know yours was in another state. However,
since your John was born 14 years before my James Mastin, they might possibly be
brothers, yours the oldest maybe and mine the youngest in a family. The only
connecting clue, however, is the VA birth location. Yours headed to Louisiana,
mine went to Ohio, Illinois, TX. Would love to have some of the stories...they
often give connecting clues. Katrina Burdine Clay Rhoads burclaro(a)jps.net

Dear Nancy, I am descended from Thomas Montgomery Clay and have fairly
complete records from him to his 3rd greatgrandchildren, or down 5
generations. Do you have any clues at all of the parents and siblings on
James Mastin Clay, who is the father of Thomas Montgomery Clay? Let me
know how far back you can go, and what information you have of your own
family line. Thanks for responding.

Hi, I have just begun looking around on the subject of family trees. My Dad
is from Boone Co., my grandfather was Robert Clay b. in Lincoln and my
g-grandfather was George Clay possibly from VA or KY his wife was Alefair or
Alifair Atkins, her father was Abe Atkins.
Do you have any info that connects this line? I don't have any info to
offer in exchange. But would appreciate your sharing. Thanks, Paul Clay,
