Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi, looking for anyone researching the following lineage. We are trying
to put some pieces of the puzzle together and any help would be greatly
appreciated. We just received some Bible pages from a cousin in
Switzerland that really gave us a new start on this family, so if you
are connected, please e-mail me at SMICKEYI(a)HOTMAIL.COM
John CLAY (born April 23, 1825 in City of Manchester England and died
June 3, 1876) and Jane Gilbert (born February 14, 1829 in County of
Antrim, Ireland and died January 29, 1912) were married on April 15,
1851.
They had six children:
1. Mary Clay-(born 3/31/1852 in Township of Riddeg in the County of
Delaware, PA and died 12/26/1875)
2. Henry Clay-(Born 10/21/1855 in Township of Aston, Cty of
Delaware, PA. and died 2/8/1862)
3. John Clay, Jr. (Born 12/6/1857 in township of Aston, Cty of
Delaware, PA. and died 3/28/1879)
4. Jane Clay (born 4/10/1861 in township of Aston, Cty of
Delaware, PA, and died 1/29/1912)
5. Maria Clay (born 1/10/1866 in township of Aston, Cty of
Delaware, PA. and died ?)
6. Katie Clay (born 1/3/1870 in city of Chester, PA, Delaware Cty,
PA and died in 1915)
Our lineage comes from Katie Clay- She married William H. Call and had
Mary, then we understand William H. Call died and she remarried but we
don't know anything about him except his last name was WUERFEL (From
Germany and the only one of his family to migrate to America) he
possible had children from a previous marriage because the other
children, Richard, Helen and Albert have been referred to as Mary's
half-brothers and sister.
We are still in contact with Helen's daughter who lives in Switzerland
and furnished us with the above information . We don't know anything
about Richard and Albert's families.
Anyway, Mary Walton Call(born 2/13/1892 in city of Chester, PA in cty of
Delware, PA.and died about 1966 in Louisiana) married Clarence Benjamin
Inman on July 25, 1914. by Rev. Cyrus C. Inman in State of Ohio,
Cuyahaya County.
They moved to New Orleans, LA where they had two children, Clarence
Walton Inman and Dorothy Inman. Clarence B. Inman left his family and
moved back to Ohio, where he remarried and then moved to Texas and had
another family and eventually died in the 1970's.
Dorothy Inman married and had four children but died of cancer at early
age.
Clarence Walton Inman married Therese Allain in Jeanerette, LA. and had
three children, Clay Walton, Theresa Allain and Mary Beth. My husband
is Clay Walton.
Anyone who has interest in this lineage please contact me at SMICKEYI@

The following announcement concerning new server capacity which will permit
searches of the archives of mailing list messages and also upgrade search
capacity for the USGENWEB archives was received a while ago from Brian
Leverich at Rootsweb. Sorry for the delay in passing it on since it
contains the instructions for searches. By the way, the Clay archives have
not been withdrawn.
Steve Jacobson
List manager for Clay list
sjacobson(a)charleston.net
The new search engine server is now online and can operate at the
speed of a full T1 connection.
Courtesy of hacks by Dale Schneider, you can search the USGenWeb
Archives, now with *headlines* and *updated* to within the last 24
hours, at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ussearch.htm
Courtesy of hacks by Karen Isaacson, you can search the archives of
any mailing list (except those withdrawn by the listowner), now with
nicer *formats* and *updated* to within the last 24 hours, at:
http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl
I'd also like to explicitly thank the folks who provided the
resources that have made this new facility possible:
o RootsWeb's Patrons, Donors, Sponsors, and Members.
o Palladium Interactive, developers of the Ultimate
Family Tree software for genealogists.
Folks interested in helping RootsWeb provide new facilities can
become Members by using the Web form at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html
By the way, the next server we'll be bringing online will be a box
dedicated to supporting Marc Nozell's HTMLized versions of the
mailing list archives. We should have that box online within 48
hours, though it's reasonable to expect Marc to need a little time
after that to get his software installed. (:
Projects after that include a dedicated IRC server, upgrading the
mail hub, upgrading the main Web server, building a NT-based
FrontPage server, bringing a "dirtylists" list server online, and
bringing a third ordinary list server online.
[ The "dirtylists" server is for the big, rarely used announcement
lists. We've developed a number of those things with 5,000 to
300,000 subscribers, and every time a post drops we kick the
daylights out of the list server with hundreds or even thousands of
bounces. We need a specially tuned box to handle these turkeys. ]
No rest for the wicked, I suppose ... Cheers, B.

Hi Carol,
Do you have any CLAYS or TAYLORS who married PEARSONS?
Hazel
I agree with Steve. I find it useful to receive copies of all the emails
going back and forth regarding a person's line/ancestral information. I can
then scan each message to see if any of the people they are referring to
could possibly be linked to my line. In fact, I guess that I thought that
was the purpose of the CLAY List to begin with???
Thanks

Sharon and all Clay list members:
To answer Sharon's question, there is the option for the
list manager
to turn reply to the list off. I made the conscious choice to have
replies go to the list for a couple of reasons. First, I am on
lists
where replies go only to the sender. Those lists often then get
messages asking anyone replying to send their replies to the list
because other people are interested, increasing the number of
messages
beyond what just having replies to list would do. Secondly, the
Clay
list as a surname list is relatively small in terms of number of
subscribers, less than 150, and not high volume like regional lists
or
even some surname lists. And lastly, I haven't really seen a
problem
with personal messages to the list. I don't feel that other
surnames
that may be associated with Clay are off-topic on the list - as an
example in my Clay line, Lucy Clay was married to a William Thaxton
-
through the list I've met several cousins who share William Thaxton
as a
common ancestor - if one of those finds out who his parents are
before I
do, I certainly hope they'll share it on this list. Now, if your
line
doesn't include Lucy Clay and William Thaxton, some might think such
a
post was off topic or a personal message or wish it had just been
send
directly to me instead of to the list. But at least at present I
still
think for this list replies to the list serve the members best.
However, I am happy to have anyone's input concerning such
questions -
I prefer to consider myself a list manager rather a list owner - I
feel
fortunate in that this list in the time I've been involved has never
had
a flame war, harsh words exchanged (at least not on the list), etc.
I
hope we can keep it that way while exchanging information of our
Clay
families and associated families. I'm also happy to have anyone's
thoughts on how to make the list more useful to Clay researchers.
Thanks for asking the question and giving me this opportunity to
share
some of my thinking with the list.

Looking for John H. Clay who was born in Frederick Co, Md on 3 Oct 1807
(calculated from tombstone). He married Ruth Spurrier in Frederick Co, Md on
19 Aug 1828. They had 3 daughters Sarah, Elizabeth and Henrietta-all born in
MD. Henrietta was born on 23 Feb 1842. About that time the family moved to
Seneca Co, Ohio. They may have lived in Clinton Twp in Seneca Co, Ohio for a
while.By 1850 they were living in Loudon Twp. Seneca Co, Ohio. There is a John
H. Clay living in Clinton Twp in the 1840 census. He is next door to a Benjamin
Clay. If this is the same John H. Clay he was in Ohio before Henrietta was born.
Appreciate any additional information or ideas for searching this family.
Thanks,
Wanda
Jan,
Ok...hope you find something about Phoebe Gilliam. I do not have any
additional
information abou the Gilliam family other than what I've given to you.

Hi Steve, and Clay list members,
I have to agree with Steve leave it as is. I like to read about all the Clay's, I
too have found some family by just reading all the posts...
I thought that people on the list were looking for a way to keep private mail off
the list.
My vote is to leave it the way it is. It is easy to delete what I do not want to
read.
Thanks for your answer.

To the Clay List Owner,
Please check the difference between the Clay list and the Tennesse list I have
below. Why does the Clay List have a Reply To the Clay list attached to it's
header. Is there an option for the list owner to turn this off? Thank you
for considering this suggestion and Thank You for your countless hours at work
for this CLAY list.

My McKnights are in Union County, AR and some were born in Union Parish, LA.
>From what I have been told, is that when Ben McKnight, who was Lucy Clay's
husband, died, her family came down from the Hot Springs area and took her
there. Joe Lee one of their sons is buried in Union County, AR. He was
killed in a logging accident in the 1970's. I am guessing that Joe Lee was
born about 1910.
