My name is Pat Whelan, maiden name Topple. I am new to genealogy and
would appreciate any help I might be able to get. My paternal
grandfather George Redmond Topple told me when I was little that we were
direct decendents of Henry Clay. I do not as of yet have his maternal
family information but I am inquiring with family members who may know.
If anyone out there is a decendent of Henry Clay and can help me with my
search I would love to hear from you.
Thank you, Pat Whelan
John Clay (1775-1826; born Hanover County, VA; son of the Rev John Clay;
and brother of Sen. Henry Clay ) moved to New Orleans where he was married
before his death in a river boat accident. Does anyone have documentation
of any children of John?
Thanks,
Ned
Hello, all:
On 11/30/1962 the nuclear submarine USS Henry Clay was launched. The boat's
sponsor was
Mrs. Green B. Gibson and its Maid of Honor was Miss Henrietta Clay. Both
were daughters of Thomas Hart Clay, Jr. & great-grandchildren of the Great
Pacificator. Mrs. Gibson died in 1966 in Lexington, KY. Her obituary gave
her Christian name as Nannie. Does anybody know if she is identical to the
Anna listed in "The Clay Family" as one of the three daughters (Miriam,
Anna & Henrietta) of Thomas Hart Clay, Jr.? Or was there a fourth sister?
Does anybody have any info on Mr. Green B. Gibson? Did they have children?
Thanks
Ned
Lois, what are the dates on your Clays?

Hi, Unfortunately I have not gotten any response from my Feb 11 question
about John Jake Clay or wife Abigail Padgett Clay. Is anyone researching
the Clay or Klee line in North Carolina. I would be happy to share any
information which I have. Don't know if my family orginated here but it
seems likely at this time. Looking forward to hearing from someone.
Thanks, Lois
I'm researching a John C Clay who was b in N Carolina (probably Chatham) in
1789/1792. His wife's name was Athlinda (unknown last name). Two of their
children were born in N Carolina: Thomas C b 1816 and John Hampton b 1824.
The family moved to Georgia, unknown when. There were other children and
unknown if they were born in Georgia or N Carolina.
CLAY, Adam (believe Adam is his middle name)
1800 Frederick Co., MD census
don't know where he was before that
wife: may have been Eve Reeves (possibly other marriages)
daughter: Susannah CLAY or KLEE b. abt. 1768 m. Edward Stewart in 1786
Susannah & Edward later lived in Jefferson Co., OH.
Any possible connections?
