Dear Clay Researchers,
Still looking for the parents of my husband's father, Victor Clay, who
was born in Meridian, MS in about 1920. Ken has only seen his Dad a
couple of times since early childhood, and they have lost touch.
Thanks for any help you might be able to give.

I am looking for the parents of Sarah Clay, born in the early 1800s in
Indiana, married Adam Monroe Mead, Sr. in 1833, and moved to Shannon County,
Missouri. She was widowed during the Civil War. She is said to be a descendant
of Henry Clay, but I don't think it is the statesman Henry Clay. I can't find
a link there.

Hi! I'm searching for Joseph "Leonard" Clay's descendants. He was born
in 1854 in Pike County Kentucky the son of Marston "Maston" G. Clay and
Nancy Anderson Clay. He had one brother William Jiles "Giles" Clay b
1852, Pike Co. KY. At the age of 16, "Leonard" and Giles left home in
Pike Co. KY to go the Whitesburg, KY in Letcher Co. to find work. Giles
returned to Pike Co, and Leonard went on to Cattletsburg. It is said
that he settled in Ohio somewhere around Defiance. These two boys were
raised by their mother and Stepfather, James Clevinger/Mullins. This
was my great-grandfather's only brother and Giles named his only son
Joseph "Leonard" Clay. I would love to know what happened to this man
and his family. Family tradition says he stayed away 42 years and
returned to visit, this would have been around 1915 in Dickenson County,
VA.
I would appreciate any help on this man and his family.
Thanks
Robin Clay Oliver
Hi Kathryn,
Actually, I think we corresponded for a while a few months. Back little by
little I'm sorting my Clays out from the rest of them. I went through the real
estate indexes and then charted exactly who was in what township. My John H.
Clay was in Loudon. There was also a Simeon Clay in Loudon Twp, but I have not
connected him as family yet. Thanks for thinking of me and sending the
information..
All the Best!
Wanda
Looking for information on the families of John H. and Ruth A. Spurrier Clay.
John and Ruth were born in Frederick Co, Md. and were married there. They moved
to Seneca Co, Ohio about 1845.
Thanks
Wanda
Dear Wanda,
I was interested in your query about John Clay and his wife Ruth Spurrier
Clay, because I am a descendant of the other John Clay of Seneca Co,
In the History of Seneca Co of Ohio by Beers 1886, in the Clinton Twp section
of pioneers, page 467, I found the following:
Ruth Spurrier, wife of John H. Clay, was born in Frederick Co.,MD, January
19, 1798 and died in Seneca Co.,Ohio June 9 1879, aged 81 years, 4 months,and
21 days. She married in the state of Maryland, August 30, 1828, and moved to
Seneca Co., April 27, 1833. "Mother" Clay was a church member for a period of
53 years
page 581, in Loudon Twp, under "Organic" and Official:
John H. Clay is listed as a township Trustee for the year 1856
In the Historical Atlas of Seneca Co,of Ohio 1874, on Loudon Twp map, it
shows
that J. H. Clay owned an 80 acre farm in Section 23.
I am very lucky to have inherited these old Seneca Co. books from my mother.
My ancestor, John Wesley Clay, came from Centre Co., PA and was an early
settler of Scipio Twp.
I hope this new info for you and you can use it.
