Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
As a listowner we are given the option of setting replies so that
they automatically go to the list unless you change the reply to address on
your message or setting replies so that they go only to the person who made
the post to the list. While my personal preference is to have replies go
the list - ROOTSWEB strongly encourages listowners not have the list set
automatically to do this. So I have not asked them to change our setting -
BUT, I hope that in most cases you will either change the reply to address
to the list address (CLAY-L(a)rootsweb.com) or add the list address as a cc:
to your replies so that all members of the list have the benefit of replies.
Thanks for participating.

Cheryl,
I think this may be the connection - your James M. Clay may be the
"Minter" below or an additional child - information comes from World Family
Tree CD's - if you think it does connect I can send you an earlier posting
to the list which has ancestry of Charles Lewis Clay.

Hello,
I'm looking for help in finding information on my grandfather's
line of Clay's. My grandfather was William Andrew Clay b ca 1866 d
1932 in Raleigh Co. WV m Nancy Vandeline d 1951. His father was James
M. Clay b ca 1839 m Lodasca (nothing else on him). James was the son
of Charles Clay b ca. 1801 and Aury b ca. 1812. I am assuming that
they were all in the Raleigh Co WV area (or whatever it was in VA at
that time).
Does anyone have a match to this data? I'll take all the help I
can get.
Thanks,

Need information on the family of William Mitchell Clay, son of Henry Clay
I and Mary Mitchell. I do not have a list of all his children, only Jesse
Clay, born 1745.
Thank you.

Hi ya VA CLAY Researchers:
Gee whiz, that was very kind of Steve Jacobson to have said those nice
things about my web page site for the Virginia CLAY surname. Click on
surnames at:
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/6025/
I will have to remember to pay him a quarter someday.
Since his boasting about my web site, I felt a little guilty about not
adding additional information and sources that I have recieved from
other Clay researchers in a timely manner. So I have made a great many
changes and additions. I still have more to go,
but this is a good start. Let me know what you think.
The mysteries and conflicting information and sources are noted. If
anyone would like to be added, note erroneous information and site their
sources, please don't hesitate to contact me. This way, perhaps we can
all work together and solve some of these problems? Like how many wives
did so-and-so have and who were they?
Tid-bits of family lore are welcome too. Like the comment about Henry
Clay dying of the "Rattles" (what in the world is that?) at the supper
table and how (perhaps) his tombstone is leaning up against a wall of a
school and the old family burial ground is bulldozed for a soccer field.
Wouldn't it be nice to have everybodys connected lines and photos of
the old places and maybe some of the folks and area maps online in one
place too? Any ideas on this? Anybody know of free web space available
for a big project like this?

Dear Clay Family Members,
In my search for my CLAY ancestors, I noticed some differences in the records
for the parents of Greenville CLAY. After posting my concern and requesting
verification of his parents I received information showing 3 different sets
of parents.
I wrote to Raleigh County WV requesting Greenville's marriage record. This
is what Raleigh Co sent to me:
Greenville CLAY, age 23 years, born in Logan Co., WV, parents Clarles L and
Ora Clay
Betsy Ann Petry, age 21 years, born in Raleigh Co., WV, parents John and Mary
Petry
Married on Sept. 1 1859 in Raleigh Co., by Amos Workman
The spelling is exactly as it appears in the record. Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Sandy Spradling
