Hi--Tammy Wagner posted a family tree on Ancestry.com for Joseph Claxton from Owen County, Kentucky. Joseph had an adopted son named William Hannan. William Hannan married my great aunt Josephine Caroline Egner. Would love to contact any one researching this family. Would be very willing to share information and sources. Would like to know Tammy's sources.
thank you
Tonia

While attempting to sort out my TAMAN family I have uncovered the marriage of ? Claxton to ? Taman in 1897 in Ontario Canada. The reason that I have used ? for the first names is that each time I have found this couple in later census (etc)..mainly Michigan, USA the spelling changes for the first names!
So I am posting 'as is'. in the hopes that others may have connections to these surnames...and we can go from there!
Tonight, I found their son's death in California in 1980 in California...(William C...born Michigan, 1902)
Hope someone else out there is looking for this line...!
Best from,
Judy in Canada.

My husband is descended from James Claxton (1798 VA-1871 MO). James is definitely not the son of James Anderson Claxton d. 1815, in fact, I don't think such a person exists. There is a James Claxton who died in 1815 in the War of 1812, but he did not have the middle name of Anderson. James Claxton (1798-1871) is most likely the son of John Claxton. James and John lived beside each other in Bedford County, TN in the 1820-late 1830s time period. John died sometime before 1840, perhaps after moving to live with a son in Giles County, TN. The best proof of what I say here is a statement taken by the TN State Pententiary from David Claxton in 1831. David said he had six brothers, a sister, and his parents living in Bedford County, TN at that time. John (also given as Johnathan) Claxton is the only one old enough to be the father of David and his brothers. We have not located the father of John Claxton and while it could be William Claxton, we have never seen any indicati!
on that is true. Same for Edward--no indication he is father of William Claxton.

Here is where our Clarkson/Claxton surname project resides.

If you'll mail me offlist, I'll send you a paper on the DNA testing for your brother which explains how it works.
I keep a spreadsheet with early spottings of Claxton and Clarkson men in Virginia, but I keep it by county, which is why I asked for locations. If you have counties, it would be helpful. At least you're in the right state for me to at least try to help you:)
Also, with the middle name of Anderson, I would guess that this is an earlier maiden name in your line.
The name James is quite prevalent in my line as well.

You didn't mention any dates or locations for these people. It would be a lot easier to help you if you gave some of this info. Also, we have a Claxton/Clarkson DNA project that might help you connect too if you have a male Clarkson who can test.

I am new to the geneology game and have found myself completely lost. My line (I believe) is as follows:
Newton Glenn Claxton (My grandfather) 1897 - 1973
William Hampton (Bill) Claxton 1866 - 1953
Henderson C. Claxton 1822 - 1892
James "Old" Claxton 1798 - 1871
James Anderson Claxton 1773 - 1815
William Claxton 1754
Edward Claxton 1703/1732 - 1757/18
We are going to Europe in May so I was trying to trace back to our roots there. Thanks you very much.
