In an old letter from the late 1800s, I find mention of a CLAXTON that relocated from around either Swanton-Abbott or Swaffham to Leeds, Yorkshire to establish a saddlery business. I will have tor review my records, if this is a possible connection to your photographs.
Wow - there's a Middleton connection - re James Middleton Clarkson. Cound be very interesting.

The one that is supposed to have been a Revolutionary War soldier and is
supposed to have married Mary Ann Anderson. I have never seen any documentation
on this couple. It was submitted to the DAR, but that was before they required
proof.

This is actually a very useful list. I didn't know that Antient Press would do that for you. Maybe some of the people on-list would be willing to do the lookups if they have the books. Also, maybe for the particular county you could ask for lookups on that county's rootsweb list. If you would gather the info and then post it, we can work on "what's left". I have a good genealogy library near me, well 4 hours away, but I've been recently and can't take any more time off work soon.
However, if you gather what you can, maybe we can get some of the rest that way.

Carolyn,
Thank you for sharing this wonderful resource. I am especially interested in
Anson or Anselm Claxton and would be interested in any information you find
on them or any Claxtons of Albemarle and Amherst.
Thelma
Recently I have tried to research the marriage of William Claxton and Mary
Ann Anderson. It was given on the internet as Granville County, NC, but I wrote
to the Clerk of the Court in Granville County and they did not find it there;
then I ordered the microfilm index of Granville Co, NC marriage bonds at the
local LDS library and found nothing there. Suspecting that the marriage might
have taken place in Virginia, I asked Antient Press for a print-out of
Claxtons in their books of transcriptions of early Virginia records. I meant to buy
all they had--boy, was I in for a surprise!!
Antient Press has 80 books with references to Claxton, Claxon or Clarkston.
They are very reasonable at $20 to $25 each, but even if I had that much money
to spend, where would I put them?? And each book usually has only ONE
mention of a Claxton.
So I am ordering the 2 Amherst County tax books and the last 6 Albemarle
County deed books, because they look most promising for my own personal research.
I thought I would list the books available here. I made a map of the
counties involved. They are all very close together, up in northern Virginia and
coming down the east side of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The proximity of the
counties leads me to believe this is all one family.
I will let you know what I find from Amherst and Albemarle.
