Hi,
My husband's Claxton branch also comes (we think) from England's Norfolk
area. John and Anne (Wright) Claxton apparently came from England to
the Georgetown area of Washington, DC between 1815 (the date the birth
of their last child--born in 1813--was recorded in England) and July,
1817, when John advertised his "Seed and Toy Store" in the local
newspaper. He evidently later owned a "China and Fancy Store" in
Georgetown. John's obituary, 24 March 1851, said he was a native of
Norfolk, England. The births of their seven children were recorded in
the book of the Unitarian Baptist denomination in Deadman's Lane, in the
parish of Wisbech St. Peter's, Cambridge, England. Births of the first
six children, ranging from 1800 to 1811 were all recorded on February
21, 1812, while the birth in 1813 of the last child was recorded in
1815. Some were listed as having been born in Wisbech St. Peters,
Cambridge, while others were born in Walsoken, Norfolk. We would like
very much to exchange information. We have quite a lot on the children
and their descendants, but nothing on the Claxtons in England except for
the church records mentioned. John was born about 1775.

Harvey is a name used in the family of James Claxton (1798-1871) of Virginia,
Bedford Co, TN, and Wright co, MO.
What is the first census record you have (or other first record) for your
James Harvey Claxton?

I just started researching the Claxton Family. My Claxtons seem to be from the Johnson Co./Jefferson Co./Emanuel Co. area of GA and then moved to FL. I don't have much yet but would be glad to share what I have.
