am searching for any information regarding WILLIAM CLARKSTON and all spelling variations, who was born est. Abt. 1775 in VA. He married BARBARA (....).
He shows up in the court orders (unindexed) March 28, 1809, Lee Co VA, bk 1, pg 72, Wm on Grand Jury of Inquest; May 24, 1808, Lee Co VA, bk 1, pg 1, Wm on Grand Jury of Inquest; August 23, 1808, Lee Co VA, bk 1, pg 33, Wm on Grand Jury of Inquest; August 22, 1809, Lee Co VA, bk 1, pg 122, Wm on Grand Jury of Inquest; and last, March 27, 1810, Lee Co VA, bk 1, pg 168, indenture of Bargain and sale from William Clerkson and Barbary, his wife to James Wiley; wit John Dixon and Benjamin Davis; This is where he sold the property purchased in the following Deed; August 24, 1800, Lee Co VA, bk1 pg 217 Nathaniel Taylor of Carter Co, TN to William Clarkston of Lee Co, VA, 100 acres in Turkey Cove, boundaries mentioned north side of Wallings ridge; wit Elijah King, Randal Collier, Joseph Head, recorded 9 dec 1800.
I do not have a census record for him, but he should show up in 1800 in Lee Co, VA. He does show up on the Land Tax 1802-1809, always with 100 acres. He also shows up on the pers prop tax rolls each year from 1795-1807 and again 1809, then disappears (sold out in the last court order). I don't know where he came FROM, or where he WENT. There is a William and Barbara about the same age range, that show up in Shelby Co, KY in 1810, but can not find any logical link between these two William and Barbaras. The later, migrated to Jennings Co, IN.
Does anyone have a list of children for this couple? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Kay Inman

The information in the book came from V.B. Ferguson, Pearlie Lamb, Ellie Davis, and Ollie McAmis. It was a written paper handed to wanda at a re-union. The note at the bottom of the history said: This is not a complete history, but with the help of several memebers of the clan this is the best we can come up with. This is written in the book on page 243. It's a small chapter and not alot of information in it. Mainly just names. Wanda said she had 2 books left. The book also states that we were sure there was going to be mistakes, as we did not have time to check every bit of information that came our way that was the responsibility of the submitter, like me, and that if there were any serious genealogical mistakes to please notify Wanda and she would do her best to put out and updated report at the re-unions. I don't think we had anything come in except stuff that was submitted to late to put in the book. Mary Sue Claxton Carey did the leg work for most of the chapter on!
James Clinton Claxton. I did some of the stuff on James Lynn cause he was my great grandpa. I did all the typing and submitting ready to go for Wanda. Mary Sue would always try to double check everything. This took a full year of checking the information that we did have on James Clinton Claxton. Wanda and Mary Sue worked there tails off too. Thanks Nancy

I can send you an attachment of what I have and you can tell
me what mistakes there are. Wanda would be greatful for more information or to correct anything that anyone sent in wrong. They have a Claxton family reunion every year and they try to put out an update if someone has something. Will be glad to send what I do have. Oh and you need to get ahold of Wanda or I can to see how many books were left. Last time I checked there were only a couple. Sincerely, Nancy

Yep, that's my family. I haven't ordered the book yet but I'm probably going to. I don't know who sent in the info for our line of the family but I guess there are a couple of my cousins who say there are too many mistakes. I haven't seen it yet but the few things that they said were wrong seemed to be pretty nitpicky. Thanks ----Andee

Andee,
I have a few Sills in the Claxton book that was mentioned above. Have a Linda Kerr daug of Richard and Joyce Belt Kerr married a Ronnie Sills not information on dates. Children Casy and Andrea? The book I'm speaking of is "Here's To Daddy Claxton" published by Wanda Warehime in 1995. A descendant from each of Hiram Madison Claxton and Temperance Mathis Claxton did a chapter on their direct ancestor. Mine is James Clinton Claxton and Betsy Elizabeth Crum. I live about 25 miles from where they are buried. And everything in that book came from direct descendants marriage, census and any other information that could be verified. Stories written by people, like me, that were handed down in the family. My dad was born in 1920 so he remembers alot about the family and he was the baby so I had lots of info. Thanks Nancy

I'm not sure where the Sills family is from. My father was adopted and that is his adopted name. His biological name is Granger and that's the one I've been researching.
