I am working on this same line.
Found Henry Claxton and wife Eady(Edie) in 1900 Emanuel County. Georgia.
Children listed were: Martha B., Celia??M., Lizzie, Thomas, and Charlie L.
Martha B. was from Eadie's previous marriage.
Census showed Eadie's birth date as June 1865. age 34
Henry was listed as December 1856, age of 43.
Connections I found says Eadie's husband (John Henry Claxton) was b. in 1874, and his father was Zachariah M. Claxton and mother was Georgia Wombles.
Zachariah's second wife was Mary. They were listed in 1900 Johnson County, Georgia with four children.
Am confused on this Henry's birth date and his father's name.
Something don't seem right. December 1856 versus April 1874. (his father Zachariah was born in 1853)
Does anyone know for sure that Zachariah is his father?

Dan, Thank you for the information on Martha Pendleton. I am glad if I have been of any help to you on this line. I have researched Claxtons for many years. My mother was a Bedford Co TN Claxton. I have not made a connection to the East Tennessee Claxtons but I have gathered a lot of information on all of the TN Claxtons. I feel certain that your research will lead you to Constantine Clarkson/Claxton, a Revolutionary War soldier born 1762 in Goochland Co. Va who settled in Anderson Co TN (Early TN Tax Records) and then moved on to Morgan Co Ill where he filed for a pension. He is buried in Morgan Co Ill. I have a portion of his pension. His complete pension and bounty land warrant can be found on LDS FHC US/CAN Film #970571.
Constantine had a son named Caswell. Since your John named a son Caswell it seems reasonable to think there might be a connection. I have sent about all the information that I have, but if I should find anything else I will relay it to you. Good luck searching.......Thelma

I don't know where they are buried, but I would sure be looking at cemetery records in Campbell Co TN. Who did Martha marry? She is surely the grandaughter named Martha age 15 who is living in John's household in 1900. I found an 1850 Census for Caswell Clarkson in Campbell County, and it appears that your John may be in that household.

Thelma---A big "Thank You" for all the work you have done, and all the information that you have sent me. You don't know how much I appreciate that. The marriage records for William Pendleton and Sarah A. Claxton, does fit.( 21 July 1883) As my grandmother, Martha Pendelton, was born 12 June, 1884----the following year. My dad told me years ago, that her father, (William Pendleton) died 1885. Her mother Sarah A. Claxton, died in 1887. So this does explain the reason that she took the name "Claxton", as she was raised by her grandparents, John and Mary Claxton. Would you by chance, know where they're buried?
Again, thanks for the information. I owe you----
Dan

Dan, These census records appear to be your Claxtons It is generally assumed that Caswell Claxton is the father of John. The ages are inconsistent in these records, so it is hard to make a decision without other records. I hope this helps.. Thelma

John Claxton married Mary Hudson 22 May 1854. They were enumerated in Campbell Co TN in 1860, 1880, and 1900. I did not search 1870. Sarah A was in the household in both 1860 and in 1880. I think that at least two children were born in Ky. so they must have lived there for a time.Since they named a daughter Delilah and a son Caswell I assume they are related to Caswell Claxton also of Campbell Co. The server for TNGenweb is currently down and so I was unable to use the site today. As I recall there is a good bit of information about this family in Campbell Co TN records. Caswell Claxton had a Civil War Pension. He served in Co M 4th TN Infantry. I will look at some of my other notes
