The James Claxton who was suggested as the father of James (1798-1871) who
married Temperance can easily be eliminated. He left a wife Sarah and a son
James in east TN.
There is good circumstantial evidence that James (1798-1871) is the son of
John Claxton who lived in Bedford County, TN.
There is also some evidence that John had a sister, Mary Claxton, who married
William Omohundro (1794, Granville Co, NC). She was a neighbor to John
Claxton in Bedford Co, TN.
If there is proof that the Rev soldier William Claxton (md. Mary Anderson)
had a different daughter named Mary, then that might also be proof that
William Claxton is not an ancestor of James Claxton (1798-1871).
I do think the repeated use of the name Anderson is significant, and that if
William is not John's father, there is still some connection to him and to
Mary Anderson. Many times we find brothers marrying sisters in that time
period. I would also suggest being aware of the name Green. James Claxton
had transactions with men named Green in Bedford County. The Omohundro
family was connected to Greens in Virginia.

There is quite a bit of information on William Claxton's descendants
(including James & Temperance) in the "History & Families of Wright County
Missouri" book. However, there is some question concerning the name of
James' father. Some historical documents indicate his name was John rather
than James. William Claxton 1754 & his wife Mary Ann Anderson 1755 had
another child - Mary Claxton 1776 - 1846 who married Caleb Arthur.

Cynthia,
Thanks for the reply. Are you related through Jack Ray Cravens, son of Sam Cravens?
I believe their father was Edward C. Harrison of Bedford Co, TN.

Elizabeth Harrison and Susan Harrison were sisters. Who were their father
and mother? I recall other Harrison gravestones in the Durbin Cemetery in
Wright County. Were they related to Elizabeth and Susan? Would I be correct
to assume that the Harrisons came to MO from Bedford County, TN? Thank you
for any information you have. I haven' even tried to start following that
line. Any clues are greatly appreciated.

According to History and Families of Wright County, Missouri, Volume I, Eliza Jane Harrison Claxton was the daughter of Eliza Jane McClane and Edward Cannon Harrison who were married in Bedford County, Tennessee.
I don't have any information beyond James and Temperence but keep hoping that something will pop up. I have corresponded with several others who have been doing this much longer than I have and they don't have anything either. Most have theories that either follow the information found in the book published by the Wright County Historical Society or believe that James' father was named John. I do know there are contraditions in the information about James and his parents that are found in that book. But either theory might be right. The bottom line is, I don't know. Have you got any guesses? Nice to know I have cousins out there.

> Hi Amy, Saw your line in reply to Who are these claxton's.Don't know either, but I think we are in the same line of James and Temperance. My line is: James and Temperance, son James Anderson, brother of Henderson who married Eliza Jane Harrison, son William Calvin married Emma Campbell, son John Newton married Bessie Cottengim, son James William married Oma F. Addington who are my parents. Do you have info to extend the line past James and Temperance ? Your Cuz, Jim Claxton
