suggested the following:
It would be nice (and perhaps very helpful) if everyone would post their
earliest known relative or their "brick wall". In researching others,
someone may run across the name and be able to help you.
Along that line of thinking, this my earliest CLAXTON, as follows:
John CLAXTON born 1811, Swanton Abbott, Norfork, East Anglia, England.
However, he was found with his family in Swaffham; and he was both a coach
builder and owner or The King's Inn.
His spouse was Martha Cable, born 25June1811.
Their children were George John CLAXTON, born 26Feb1837 and
Edward James CLAXTON, born 5Mar1841/43.
They lived on Back Lane, Swaffham.
I had been given to believe that John's parents, shown in this clip EX 1881
CENSUS, may have been the following persons:
Head: CLAXTON, David Neighbors 225884
Name Relationship Mar Age Sex Occupation Birthplace
David CLAXTON Head M 70 M Pensioner Necton-NFK
Heastes CLAXTON Wife M 63 F Chairwoman Et Bradenham-Nfk
Address: Back Lane, Swaffham
Census Place: Swaffham Swaffham, Norfolk
PRO Reference: HO/107/1831 Folio: 100 Page: 19 FHL Film: 0207486
However, 1881-70 years = 1811. This would have been the birth date of
David CLAXTON; John's birth date was 1811. Therefore, these, although
possible related persons, are unlikely the parents.
Therefore, I am seeking the parents of John CLAXTON.
Best wishes,
Howard

Our earliest in the Claxton line is David C Claxton b 1801 Wilson Co, TN.
Another David Claxton can be found in VA in the 1770's married to Sarah
Campbell but we can draw no connection to any of the known Claxtons in our
db. He is _definitely_ not our David's father.

Thelma Phillips has found that Anson Claxton was surety or witness on the
marriage of Hiram Claxton to (Martha or Patsy--can't remember) in Christian
Co, KY in 1817. On the 1830 census of Maury Co, TN Hiram Claxton (Clanton in
the Sistler transcript) was a neighbor of John Bachelor who married Nancy the
daughter of Anson Claxton in 1813 in Sumner Co, TN. I am sort of thinking
now that Hiram was a son of Anson, which leaves a space for another son for
"old John" of Bedford Co. Nominations?

I am sending these records because I noticed the name of Henry Avery and it
appears that the Avery Claxton of the 1850 Bedford Co, TN census was actually
Henry Avery Claxton.

Hi Everyone! Happy Flag Day! In honor of this occasion, here are a
couple of questions for you:
Have you found an ancestor who fought in the American Revolution?
How many countries' flags hang in your tree?
Do you have a special flag in your family's possession? What is the
story behind it?
No need to reply to this post but _do_ think about it. This post is used
with permission of the Listowner and the person who suggested it.
Wishing you success in your research,

Bill,
It is good to hear from you. I did not know that the descendants of Hiram
had put out a book. That is very interesting. I wish I could see it. I had
letters from Mrs. Granvil Vaughn of West Plains, MO, which I am told is just
across the line from Sharp Co, AR, back in the late 70s, early 80s. She was
from James A. Claxton who was a brother of Hiram Madison Claxton. That is
the one you are talking about, isn't it?
Could you please give me an address for the person who wrote the book? There
is a Hiram Claxton in TN who was b about 1799. He could be the father of
their Hiram and James A. I am pretty sure Hiram b 1799 is a brother of our
James b 1798. There is also a Jonathan in TN who was born before 1800 that
had a bunch of children I cannot identify.
I think I did read about the officer who was killed. I am glad to know how
he connects.
Thanks for answering my e-mail.

are kin to us by their gdpa Hiram being a bro to James. They have put

Dale was a third cousin. We had never met them but had talked to Dales

Hello to you all, I am Ray Gillespie from Ohio, rayg(a)msmisp.com My
grandmother was Lillian Claxton, she married Emil Relstab around 1910 in, I
believe, Dekalb Cty, Illinois. I can go forwards but I have no idea where
she came from. She was the second wife of Emil and it appears no one took
the time to find out about her. I cannot find her one daughter Evelyn and my
Mother is past remembering about the past. Lillian died in the early 50's in
Michigan. If you have any knowledge of Lillian please e-mail back.
Thanks, Ray
Andrea,
Thanks very much for your response. I have been corresponding with several
people over the last couple of months on the Claxton line. I have gotten
excited about it again after receiving some new information. I think we are
getting closer to following the Claxton trail back another generation or two.
Are you interested in finding the siblings and ancestors of James Claxton,
1798-1871?
Have you done any research in this direction? I would like to share what I
have with you.

I certainly am getting some surprises. I had thought the name Claxton might
have been Clarkson originally. The people I am investigating sometimes had
their name spelled that way in the 1800s.

My father once told me the Claxtons came North from Southern England looking
for work.
My guess is from Norfolk but that is only because there are a lot of
Claxtons in the Norwhich
area. There are also 2 Claxton villages in England. One 12 miles N.E. of
York and one about 20 miles S.E
of Norwhich.
