Charles O. Swasy Jr.
Formerly of Torrance
Charles O. Swasy Jr., 83, formerly of Torrance, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. He was born April 3, 1927, in Blacklick Township, son of the late Charles O. Swasy and Anna Mary (Clawson) Swasy. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, in Torrance. Charles was the retired vice general chairman of the Railroad Clerical Union. He was a former block operator for Penn Central, a member of the American Legion Post 945, in Harrisburg, and a member of the Transportation and Employees Union. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Survivors include his son, Terry Swasy, of Franklin; daughters, Dr. Bonnie Szymik and husband, Greg, of Aikens, S.C., Cheryl Steele and husband, Tom, of Blairsville, Lois Baker and husband, Ron, of Brush Valley, and Cindy Huff and husband, Paul, of Burlington, N.C.; 23 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Tracy Jacobs, of Torrance; sisters, Ruth Carlson, of Blairsville, and Virg!
inia Campbell, of Northumberland; and brother, Clark Swasy, of Indiana, Pa. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles O. Swasy; mother, Anna Mary (Clawson) Swasy; wife, Alverda (McKee) Swasy, in 2009; daughter, Judy Jacobs; brother, John Swasy; and sisters, Mary Lois Yelenick, Caroline Dunlap and infant sister, Margaret. In keeping with Mr. Swasy's wishes, there will be no visitation or services. The JAMES F. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, Blairsville, is handling the arrangements. Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery.
