Hi, my name Kate, Mark is my husband, he isn't very good at replying so he ask me to do so on his behalf if you don't mind. He remembers having and knowing an Aunt Juanita, his father's sister. Mark describes her as an 'unusual' person, to be kind. Going to her home as a child he was not allowed inside, only as far as the front porch and then not allowed to speak. He also recalls vividly that she was constantly changing her name. The Clawson clan are primarily from PA and IN, many in both states are or were of the Mormon faith. (The surname Clawson itself is of Jewish origin). His parents are Jerry and Inez Clawson who live in Danville, IL, you can find them easily with free Yahoo People Search, if not we can provide that info in a later reply. We do not have contact with his family any longer but can reach them if necessary. To be honest most of the Clawson's are nuts!!!!!! Mark isn't a nut so the family made him an outcast well over 30 years ago. (HOORAY!) If you'd like to!
email him privatly his addy is halfbreed5762(a)yahoo.com . I'm sorry if I sound curt, it is not personal towards you, we are disgusted with his famiy and it's a painful topic for us. Please write back, one of us will reply and give you as much info as we can, that is a promise. Hope you are having a great day.
Kate

Hi Barbara
I believe James Woodward Clawson was the brother of William R. Clawson (married to Elizabeth Douglas on 30 Sep 1802 in Washington Co., VA). It looks like to me that they both came to Virginia from New York, and my ancestor, James W. Clawson, a son of William R. Clawson moved further to Union Co., TN. There is some discussion in our line that Sarah Clawson, a daughter of James W. Clawson was a Native American because older family members mentioned they were Indian. If you would like to share informaiton on the Clawsons you can contact me at sghaller(a)aol.com. I am showing in my records that John Larrimore Clawson (b. 17 Aug 1811 d. 3 Mar 1902) is the son of James Woodward Clawson and Jane Larrimore. Sandy

Hi,it is possible that we are looking for people from same family, except the Charles A. Clawson was born in Illinois, wife-Maude born in PA. Other siblings are: Kate, Harry K.,more listed 1910 census mircoindex - my mother was Harry k. Clawson's daughter, but all my life she had said her maiden name was different. Harry supposedly left home at 16 & dropped the name Clawson & used DeVore instead. It has taken me 20 years or more just to find this out. My mother died in1980 & took all info with her. I also believe that I have 3 half sisters & 1 half brother, do not know last names. My mother kept alot of secrets, she changed her name many times, lied about where she was born & even the dates. Wish I could be more help, but I have wall after wall, because of course I have no one to get answers from, after all these yrs. of just guessing, I met a woman in VA, but she has since passed. Please reply.

They are my great-great grandparents, Daniel Calvin, Rosa Belle, to Marie Ake, my mother. I have been to the Flint Cemetery, very nice. They were poor and I am sure there is no stone. I just knew there were many of Nathaniel's descedants in Coryell County and thought one of them may have had a record. I hope to make their reunion one of these days. Sylvia

I sure hope you or one of those other really good researchers put together a book. Just reading these makes my head spin. I have a feeling that my Clawson's fit in here somewhere. Ebenezer born in NY in 1791 is the farthest back for sure we have. Was in Arknasas territory very early. Think his father is Isaac b.1766 in NY and comes from some of that early William bunch or maybe those that were in Berkley, Virginia (WV). At some point I believe Ebenezer was in Illinois because that was where his wife, Mary Alice Shepherd, was from. He and some of his brothers and children were waggoners so they were out on the early frontiers of Arkansas territory and Texas. Have lots of stuff on these coming forward but we seem at a stalmate going back. Have you run across these in your searching?

Pheobe could be buried in Lampassas County, Tx. She is on the 1880 census with her son, Daniel Calvin Clawson, and his family. So she died after June 21, 1880.

I would guess that they are buried in Flint Creek Cemetery in Coryell County. The land for it was given by William W Moorhead who had a daughter, Frances Emaline Moorhead, who married, Nathaniel Clawson, one of the sons of John & Pheobe Clawson. Most all of the Clawson children and many of the grandchildren or buried there. There is no marker for them but there are many early unmarked graves that could very well belong to them. Frances & Nathaniel are my ggrandparents.
Here are directions:
>From the Gatesville, Coryell Co. Courthouse, take Hwy 84 East to intersection with Hwy 36 South. Turn South. Go about 12 miles. You will pass Flat, Texas. Go to FM 184. Turn right. Go 5 miles, to CR 354. Turn left. Go l.l mile. There is a sign. Turn right to Cemetery, 2/10 mile.
This is a listing of the folks buried there with stones:

I hope to find the family of John Clawson. I have found antique photos on www.shopgoodwill.com and I cannot bear to think of treasures such as these going into a trash can. This family is not in my lineage, I know nothing about them, I do this as a service to preserve family histories and connect families to lost treasures. I make nothing from this and am not affiliated with Goodwill either.
