Josiah and his wife Rebecca Clark were opposed to slavery.
So, they moved to Richmond with North Carolina Quakers.
Josiah had a brother named William in NC. His father was named William. He was from New Jersey. Wiliam's
parents were Thomas and Anne Clawson. Josiah was a
first cousin to many of the Ohio Clawsons.
Rebecca's father was John Clark from England.

Does anyone have any information on the parents of Josiah Clawson? Several names are used in the tree of John Clawson (Closson) born 1783 PA. Could he be a brother of Josiah ? Thanks, Don Sellers (Closson)

Here is what I have so far on Josiah Clawson and wife Rebecca Clark. I have not had the time to invest serious research, but will share what I have so far. Some of it may not be verified yet.
Josiah Clawson born 2/12/1763 (possibly North Carolina); died 1799-1820; married Rebecca Clark 1785; resided in Greensboro, Guilford Co., NC; 1818 moved from NC to Wayne Co., Indiana with wife and children and "settled on land later owned by Hugh Moffit and M. Wessels, 2-1/2 miles NE of Richmond" from History of Wayne Co. from its First Settlement to the Present Time by Andrew White Young, pg. 335. I have not found where he was buried, may not be with wife.
Use caution in your research as there are Josiah Clawson's in Fountain Co., Carroll Co., and Henry Co. Indiana.
Wife Rebecca Clark was born 1761 or 1763 possibly in Chester Co. or Lancaster Co. PA; I believe she died 1850 (I'll be in Richmond in a couple weeks visiting family and hope to get to the library to read a few obits and articles to clear some things up). She was a member of the White Water Monthly Meeting (Quaker) and transferred from the Cane Creek Monthly Meeting in NC (I think this was in Orange Co. NC, now Alamance Co.); her father was John Clark born about 1722 of London Grove Twp. PA; mother Ann Gibson. I have further research to do on the Clark family but believe they were from England or Ireland, and some also went to Richmond IN. Rebecca is listed as head of household on the Wayne Co. 1820 census (presumably widowed), along with 2 females and 2 males which possibly were her children (again, not researched yet), 2 free colored persons, employed in agriculture; buried Sugar Grove Friends Cemetery.
Josiah and Rebecca's children were:
1 - William Clawson; born 1785; died 1865 Richmond; married Keziah Ward; children Josiah, Susannah, Libby, Naomi, Alida, Thomas, William Jr., Ann, Sarah.
2 - Amos Clawson; born 1792-1797 Randolph or Guilford Co. NC; died 4/1846 Richmond IN; married 1819 Wayne Co. IN to Eleanor Malinda Davenport; farmer and tavern keeper of the "Green Tree Inn" (previously the home of Robert Hill) on land what is the present day Holiday Inn in Richmond (memorial plaque on site) on National Road at the top of Sycamore Hill; resided "On Middle Fork near its mouth, was William Bulla, an early settler and son-in-law of Andrew Hoover, Sen. He early built a saw mill on his farm near near the site of Burson's oil mill. He lived there until his decease, some years ago at an advanced age. Near the lands of the Hoover families, Jesse Clark, Ralph Wright, Alexander Moore, and Amos and Abner Clawson settled. A little further up were the Staffords, Bonds, Bunkers, Swallows, Ashbys, Andrewses, and others, all of whom , we believe were from North Carolina, and chiefly Friends." from An Illustrated History of the State of Indiana by DeWitt C. Goodrich pg. !
529; buried Smyrna Quaker Cemetery, Wayne Co. IN. Children: Elizabeth (married Robert Hill), Rebecca Ann (married Walter Denny Jay), John S. (married Catharine McPherson), Mahlon (married Sallie), Malinda B. (never married). (I have further info on Amos' family)
3 - Mary Clawson; born 1792.
4 - Abner Clawson; born 1797; married 1816 Elizabeth Betsy White, Wayne Co.; died 1870; buried Hoover-Bulla Friends Cemetery; "settled where Elihu Williams lives" from History of Wayne Co. from its First Settlement to the Present Time by Andrew White Young, pg. 335; had 9 children.
5 - Sarah Clawson.
6 - Alice Clawson; born 1799 NC; married 1821 Wayne Co. to Joseph White; died 1872-1874.
7 - Mahlon Clawson; born 1802 Guilford Co. NC; married 1829 Wayne Co. to Mary Ann Polly Brown; civil war veteran; moved to Iowa and died there; children: Jane, Abner, Esther, Sarah?, Daniel, Libby, Joseph, Charles.
