Clawson is a collateral line for me, however I have been interested in learning more about a story I heard last year about John B. Clawson. According to a family tree submitted on Ancestry.com, John is the great-grandson of Garret and Mary (through Thomas, then Timothy). John married Melissa Pearson in Warren Co, IN. Melissa is the sibling of my direct ancestor William Pearson. The story goes that John had some function in the government of Warren County, IN and was incharge of collecting funds for something. Apparently, he absconded with the funds and fled to Canada. Later, he and Melissa made their way to Kansas. My great-great grandmother Catherine Jane Pearson was living with them in McCune, Kansas at the time of her death in 1936. In the 1930 census, John, Melissa and her mother Catherine Jane Pearson are living in Osage, Crawford Co, KS. I'm interested in learning anything about the story and if anyone knows more about my g-g-grandmother's time in Kansas with !
the Clawsons. Thanks.
