Looking for information on Margaret S. Clawson born about 1850 in Ohio. She married Henry Walter and they lived and raised a family in Louisville, KY. It is believed they died after 1910 and are buried in the St. Michael Cemetery in Louisville.

I have little else on this line. I have a strong hunch they somehow tie into our Ellis Campbell b 1804 in VA line. Ellis Campbell died 1881 in Iron Co., MO. We can't locate a parent for Ellis. We also can't locate his wife, Elizabeth Youngs family line. One death index has Elizabeth as maiden name of Cobb. Not sure what to believe (the informant was a relative only by marriage to one of Eliz. daughters).
I think Corneilus may have been father in law of Nancy Ann Clawson who married Ellis R. Campbell in Metuchin, Woodbridge twp, Middlesex co, NJ in 1771 or 1775 (depends on record you read). Nancy Ann Clawson Campbell was in her 90's in 1852. I think the name pattern was common back then.. as we have Mathis Freeman, Mathis Campbell, etc... sure wish I could tell you more.

I replied to your note online, but thought I would post on the list also.
The Corneilus Clawson in NJ is a possible link for me, but just not certain.
There was a Campbell family in Metuchin, Woodbridge twp, Middlesex co, NJ
consisting of:
Ellis R. Campbell b 1756
Nancy Ann Clawson b abt 1756 (was in 90's in 1852 ... I have her information
from Ellis R's pension files).
The pension files also state that Nancy Clawson was a cousin of Henry
Freeman, and she lived in his grandfather's (fathers? would have to check
the file, but this Nancy Freeman was a granddaughter of MF) house. The
home belonged to Dr. Melanthom (many spellings) Freeman of Metuchin. Dr.
Freeman had many children & grandchildren living in his home(s)?
The pension file goes on to say that Nancy had three children while living
in this house. It also states that Nancy & Ellis were married in this
house. From what I can figure the first 6 children were born there.. so...
was Nancy Ann Clawson a daughter of Corneilus Clawson, or a daughter in law?
This was during the American Revolution, so it could be that Nancy Freemans
first husband was killed? Lots of questions here, and I am not real sure
it's the right line for me... so have not persued it much.
Corneilus Clawson, in his will gives Joseph &John Campbell .. Joseph was a
son in law. There was a Joseph Campbell in MO... as were Suttons, etc..
many familiar names.. all very common names.

I'm looking for information on a ancestor of mine. Her name is Nancy Ann Clawson. She was born 10-7-1823 in Pennsylvania. She moved with her parents to Moline, Illinois in 1840. She married William Neal on 9-16-1847. They had two daughters Cornelia 12-23-1848 to 6-11-1914, and Martha 8-29-1851 to 5-16-1857. Nancy died in Moline on 5-4-1910. She had a brother and sister listed on her obituary, a Mathias Clawson and a Addie McCreary, both living in Council Bluffs, Iowa. I think there might be a connection with Cornelius Clawson due to the common first names used. I would appreciate any help you can offer.

HELLOOOOOO Bruce,
Just got done responding to a Clawson researcher who was a "bit" put out with me so I hope my attitude doesn't carry over to your letter.
Keep going over my "responses" and I seem to skip some things.
I am doing Clawson research but am not a Clawson Researcher because I am not trying to come into the 20th century so much as trying to nail down my Mercy Clawson wife of James Kiggins. (I think you may have understood this but I need to reaffirm same.)
I do have 1300 posting's for Clawson and the two Josiah's you asked about my being a decendent of is part of the problem. I have an elder Josiah, a younger Josiah, a Frederick, a Rachael wife of John Patton, and an Andrew J. Clawson that cannot be firmly connected to the other Clawson's BUT in some cases are connected through their wives. Whereas many Clawson names come through the Clawson line, in my research there is a very large group that are deriving their names from Jonathan Smalley's family AND Lewis Boyer. They break from "Thomas, Garrat, and Cornelious" names. But what is absolutely AMAZING is that I can't find a MERCY to save my life. There are those named after her...but except for a name "Charity" and "Thankful", I can place her know where. My fear is that she was the widow of a Clawson very young, and I do mean very young.
About the Clawson HOLLAND births. In the book"History of Miami County Ohio, on page 496 for Biographical Sketches is one on Peter Shanks who's father Joseph married 1st. Mary Clawson (d/o Garrabrant Clawson and his wife Mary) and 2nd Elizabeth Clawson (d/o Peter Clawson and Dolly Garrison) later in life. In the book it states "Mary Clawson of Holland Birth (1762) and Welsh parentage; she emigrated to America in her youthful days, and the marriage was celebrated in Pennsylvania about the time of the War of Independence; they afterward came west as far as Hamilton County, Ohio; there they remained a few years; they then located in Montgomery County, Ohio, where Mary died, and was interred in Sugar Creek Baptist Cemetery of Washington Township."
So let's take her being born in 1762, plus "youthful days" (8-12), give her the War years of 1776-1783 for her marriage (16-18) and 1789 for birth of her son John (but I can't tell if he is the eldest child), what do we have?
1. Born 1762 + 10 years for "youthful days"=1772 in America. 2. Now 1762 + 18 (War year 1780) marr. 1780.
3. Son John 1798 birth-but out of 6 children I have only births
for 3 and he only LOOKS like the eldest.)
MEMO: A very messy bit of research that is out there states her name as MARY (Clawson) WELSH, as though she was married to a man named Welsh. This is the mistaken belief that the word Parentage ment the same as Parent. BUT the good information comes from seeing the actual book and seeing she was BORN in Holland... BUT... of Welsh parentage", which tells a lot of what we know of them.
My son just came up to tell me it's 4:00 am. I'm out of here for tonight.
bye Joan
