Hi to the list,
I am researching the Clawson's from In. Co., Pa. I can not find the
parents of Joseph Clawson b 1812 d 1887. He is buried in Hopewell
Cemetery as is his son Christopher. I know that he is descended from one
of the brothers Richard, Peter, Josiah etc. who came from Scotland as
young men. They were first in Huntington Co. and then in In. Co. Is
anyone else related to this family? Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you,
Marilyn Allen

Hi.. I have a Campbell/Clawson marriage from Woodbridge, Middlesex county,
NJ..
Ellis R Campbell b 1756 in same married Jan 31 1775 to Nancy Clawson b 1756
ish in NJ. I think Nancy was a Freeman prior to a first marriage to a
Clawson? This is a guess from reading Ellis R Campbell's military papers.

Clawson Listers -- I'm following up on Cliff's e-mail of yesterday, in which
he indicated everyone on the list should repost their Clawson info/brick
walls once a year as the subscribership of the list changes.
I am researching a number of Clawson lines in PA, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois,
and points west. I begin with Garret Clawson and his presumed wife Mary, who
show up first in southwestern Pennsylvania ca 1775. His son Garret Jr.
fought in the Rev War, and remained in Fayette Co PA with his wife Kezia
Sturgis. Children went to Monroe Co, Wisconsin, Wood County VA (later West
VA), and Greene and Armstrong Counties in PA.
The other children -- John, Josiah, Thomas, Peter, and Mary (Shanks) -- all
went to frontier Ohio, presumably with their mother, in the 1790's. They
appear to have been at Covalt Station, and then most settled at Centerville
in Montgomery County. Thomas and Josiah (my ancestor) went on to Fountain
County, Indiana ca 1824. Peter and Garret, likely Peter's sons, went to
Indiana also -- with Peter moving on to Carroll County IN where many
ancestors lived. Children of Josiah and Thomas moved shortly to Warren
County Indiana and also to Vermilion and Champaign Cos in Illinois. Children
of Thomas also moved to Iowa and across the Oregon trail to the Pacific
Northwest.
Peter Clawson and many of his family members moved to Shelby County, Ohio.
John Clawson and his family members moved to Preble County, Ohio.
Descendants of both went west -- to Wisconsin, Henry County, Indiana, and
Rush County, Indiana. Mary Shanks husband Joseph went to Fayette Co., IN and
descendants were in Carroll Co, IN, Delaware Co. IN and west.
I would be happy to exchange information with anyone who might be tied in to
any of these lines. I have long text notes on all these Clawson branches --
to which I am adding all the time. I am happy to send them to anyone
interested.

Still seeking any info on Ann or her unnamed daughter:
James MORFORD [#48 in Enid Adams' "Whose Morford Was He--John's or
Tom's"] was born
August 17, 1753 in Cranbury, Middlesex County, New Jersey, a son of
Thomas MORFORD
(1716-1797) and Ann LAWRIE(1718-1799), and presumed great-great-grandson
of John MORFIT (MORFORD).
James married Ann CLAWSON on April 19, 1772, probably in Middlesex
County, New Jersey. They had seven children (MORFORD): Rebecca who
married Jacob HARRIS, James, Joseph who married Elizabeth FELL, William
who married Elizabeth BENTLY, Thomas who married Rebecca MORFORD,
Elizabeth who married Richard MORFORD, and a daughter--name not given,
probably born in Fayette Co., PA., who married a Mr. CLAWSON who may
have been her cousin.
James died December 14, 1809 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. Ann died
some time after being enumerated as head of household in the 1810
census Pymatuning Twp, Mercer County, Pennsylvania.

Originally I was puzzled by the list of Clawsons in the War of 1812 e-mail,
but I realized that there were additional Clawsons, some of whom I am related
to, who were listed in the records under the spelling of "Clauson". I've
pasted them in below.
