Thank you for responding. I don't know what to think. The Maude I am looking for would not have been born a CLAUSS. I do not know when or where.
The 1930 Knox Co., IN census shows Michael Clauss age 62 and Maud K. age 48. It says she was born in Illinois. It also says he married first at age 50 and that she married first at age 24. Assuming the ages are correct, this would mean she was born ca. 1882 and married 1st ca. 1906. I am pretty sure Mike Clauss was married only once, but it sounds like Mike may have been her 2nd husband. If Mike was 62 & 1st married at age 50, that would mean he married 12 years prior to the census which would have been ca. 1918.
I could find nothing in the 1920 census for Michael, Mike, Maude or just an "M" Clauss in either exact spelling or soundex spelling. The 1910 census shows "Mike" living with his brother and aged mother. Mike was 42 years of age.
I have not been able to find a marriage record for Michael Clauss and Maude (maiden name unknown). Since she was born in IL, I am wondering if they could have married in IL.
Michael Clauss died in Oct. 1931 in Vincennes, IN. Maude survived him, but I don't know what became of her after he died. I have no birth or death date for her. Perhaps she left Vincennes or even IN. Perhaps if we could access a 1940 census, we could find her. Maybe she remarried???
I'll keep searching I guess. If you think of anything or have access to Illinois records perhaps you can look for a marriage record of a Michael Clauss and Maud somebody. Thanks again.

Richard
I don't know if I am helping, confusing or closing some loop holes with this information, but maybe it will help.
I have a Maude Clause/Clauss the DAUGHTER of Joseph Clauss/Clause and Celina Petit Spinner Clause. She was born June 13, 1884 in Havana, Mason County, IL. She is the granddaughter of Michael Clauss born Jan 11, 1800 who lived in Pennsylvania.
My Maude Clauss/Clause married George Martyn. They had no children of their own but adopted on boy, Harold Martyn who was born Sept 17, 1912. As far as I know, George Martyn was Maude's only husband. George was either deaf or very hard of hearing.
Maude, George and Harold's first wife, Ruth are buried in the St. Charles/St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Havana, Mason County, IL, as are her parents, Joe and Celina Clause.
Maybe if nothing else, that info will help to eliminate some possibilities for you! :)
