Subject: Re: Weidner
Thanks Brenda....
Valentine was mentioned in a BIO in History of Berks Co, as a hatter in
Reading, a son of William R REIDER and Emma HIMMELREICH. William R was son
of John P WEIDNER and Elizabeth REPPERT. John P WEIDNER was son of Peter
WEIDNER and Elizabeth PRICE/PREISS, and son of Tichicus. Eliabeth PREISS
had married 1) Jacob WEIDNER, Peter's cousin, son of Lazarus, Tichicus's
brother, and after his - Jacob's - death she remarried Peter WEIDNER.
p: 1062:
William R. Weidner was born Nov. 27, 1837, in Pike township, and when
fourteen years of age began going to the public school, which he attended
for a few winters only. He has been a lifelong farmer in Oley, Ruscombmanor,
Alsace and Exeter townships, having spent the last twenty-six years in the
latter, and the last twenty years in one location. Mr. Weidner is
wonderfully preserved for his age, and works every day. In politics he is a
Democrat, and he and his family worship at Spies's Church, being Lutheran
members thereof. On Dec. 31, 1864, Mr. Weidner married Emma Himmelreich, and
to them were born children as follows: Seth, a woolen goods manufacturer of
Reading, m. Emma Clauser; Amanda m. Augustus Wentzel, a trucker of Alsace
township; <<Emma m. George Haag, a hosiery manufacturer of Reading>>;
William, a milk dealer of Exeter, m. Sallie Schmehl; Katie died aged
twenty-two years; John H. and Daniel H. are twins, the former of whom has
been an invalid since 1901; Thomas, a!
farmer of Muhlenberg township, m. Dora Buchert; Mary m. Cleaven Steffey, of
Wyomissing; <<Valentine, a hatter of Reading, m. Irene Hinnershitz>>; and
Misses Sallie and Lillie are at home.
Who is the Mamie E buried there with them? Since his wife Irene died in
1925, I wonder if he remarried Mamie E? Does anyone know?
AND does anyone know who GEORGE HAAG was, that m daughter Emma WEIDNER and
was a hosiery manufacturer in Reading. In view of the recent HAAG/HAWK
postings......does anyone have his ancestry? Does it connect with the
earlier Joh. George HAAG?

I recently received a page of Spies Church Cemetery, Alsace Township,
Berks County and it includes a few Weidner burials. I've seen the recent
Weidner activity on the list and thought I would share.

Subject: Pennsylvania German Immigrants, 1709-1786 - See Some Names
Pennsylvania German Immigrants, 1709-1786, Lists Consolidated from Yearbooks
of The Pennsylvania German Folklore Society, Don Yoder, 1980, 1994. Blue
cloth covered hardback with gilt printing, 6 x 8-3/4, 394 pages, as new -
actually, this is a new book that I had stuck back for myself for the
"someday when I had time to research." The book is no longer in print. Per
the publisher:
"The lists making up this remarkable work try to identify German emigrants
in their homeland and in Pennsylvania. Thus they are cited with reference to
manumission records, parish registers, passports, and other papers of German
and Swiss provenance, and noted again, where possible, with reference to an
equivalent range of Pennsylvania source materials, notably church records,
wills and tax lists. The emigrants are frequently listed in Strassburger and
Hinke's Pennsylvania German Pioneers, from which are drawn dates of arrival,
names of ships, and other immigration evidence.
The materials antedating immigration often indicate causes, dates of
emigration, the emigrant's occupation, his dates of birth and marriage,
place of birth and residence, and names of family members, sometimes with
lines of descent for several generations. The materials cited after arrival
in America generally identify the emigrant in connection with his place of
settlement in southeastern Pennsylvania."! Contents include:
Emigrants from Wuerttemberg: The Adolph Gerber Lists, From Volume
Ten (1945), 103-237.
Pennsylvania German Pioneers from the County of Wertheim from Vol.
Twelve (1947), 147-289.
A List of German Immigrants to the American Colonies from
Zweibruecken in the Palatinate, 1728-1749, from Vol. One (1936),
101-124.
A List of German Immigratns to the Americal Colonies from Zweibruecken
in the Palatinate, 1750-1771, from Vol. Sixteen (1951), 171-183.
A List of Eighteenth-Century Emigrants from the Canton of Schaffhausen
to the American Colonies, 1734-1752, from Vol. Sixteen (1951), 185-
196.
