-------------------------------
Jan - I think you have the wrong info for John m. Maria Margaretha GEIGER!
The John that married GEIGER died in 1754:
His will abstract had the wrong surname spelling and was filed in Phila!
Pennsylvania Wills, 1682-1834
Recorded in Phila County:
STEHLETON (Stebleton/Stapleton), JOHN. Co. of Berks, Penna. Yeoman.
December 2, 1754.
April 5, 1755. K.279.
Children: John and Mary Elizabeth.
Exec: Wife Mary Margareth and Casper Gressimer (Greisemer).
Witnesses: John Lesher, John Yoder, Jacob Geiger, John Gshwind.
Mary Margaret GEIGER, widow of John S. died 1794. Both she and John are
buried in Amity Lutheran Cemetery, in Amityville, Berks Co. The Jacob
GEIGER mentioned as a witness to John's will seems to be her father. Here
is his will:
Pennsylvania Wills, 1682-1834 - CD 209:
Philadelphia County Wills:
GEIGER, JACOB. New Hannover. Phila. Co. Yeoman.
June 17, 1763. June 29, 1772.
Wife: Anne Mary. Children: Jacob, <<Mary Steffeldon>>, Mary Barbara Geiger,
Mary Elizabeth, Christiana Guldy, Elizabeth Orndt, Catherine Hurt. Sons
in law: Jacob Orndt, John Guldy, Stoffel Geiger, Jacob Hirt.
Execs.: Jacob Arndt, John Guldy.
Witnesses: Nicholas Garrison, L. Weiss.
(P:278)
His son Jacob returned to Ittlingen, Germany, so he would not be a witness
to John's will in 1754.
At Amity Lutheran Cemetery, John Stapleton's stone says: d. 1754 (his stone
says "Here lies John Stapleton ("Stebelton") in his coffin and grave until
him at the last day of Jesus again calls."
Maria Margaretha, w. of John Stapleton, b 1721; d. 1794.
John Jr is buried there too:
John Jr, Esq 1751-1820
Rosina, wife of John 1760-1833
And John Sr's. brother William:
William Stapleton 1720-1785 (His stone says: "Here rests the remains of a
brother of this Society, William Stapleton, born 1720, and lived in peaceful
matrimony 37 years with wife Anna, and died without children 3/26/1785."
Anna K; wife of William 1723-1795 (she was Anna Kinga Hoffman)
The historian and writer - Rev. A.Stapleton - who descends from John's son
John, writes about Robert Stapleton:
"Robert P Stapleton (b.1690) was of the English nobility. Becoming a
Quaker, he was expatriated and came to Pennsylvania about 1715, settled in
Oley, five miles north of Amityville. In 1750 he led a Quaker colony to
Woodstock VA where he acquired extensive lands; died there in 1754, having
left John and William in Oley." (And Tobias in Albany!)
Not sure about the Nobility part! Found Robert Stapleton's father died c
1702 in NY, a ship Captain m to a Jane/Hannah:
City of New York, abt 7/1691, a lease for Robert STEPELTON, found at
Genealogy.com:
"Robert Stepelton, makeing application for a Lease during the natual life of
himself and his wife Hannah of a certain piece of land lying beyond the
Smiths, abt at the foot of the hill bounded on the SW by land of Mr.
Beekman, containing 40 foot in ffront and 22 foot backward into the hill
rendering and paying unto the City, six shillings per yeare and leaving a
Convenient Road betwixt his house and high water merke and countinueing a
building thereupon in Conventient repair with att the decease of himselfe
and his wife is to returne to the Citty, is granted of himselfe and his wife
is to return to the Citty is granted him for the terme aforesaid and ordered
that a lease be drawne accordingly."
Whereas ROBERT STAPLETON, late Commander of her majesties Ship "Jersey," has
lately died intestate, Letters of administration are granted to Captain
George Rogers, in Trust for Jane Stapleton, the widow, March 5, 1702.
Registered at ye request of Captain George Rogers, as administrator of the
goods left in Captain Stapleton's cabin after his decease, in the hands of
Captain George Rogers. 6 rings. 1 Indian sash. (Many articles of personal
adornment but no value stated.) Exhibited as a true inventory of the goods,
etc., of Captain Robert Stapleton, March 9, 1702/3.
Of John Stapleton, Rev. A Stapleton writes:
'John Stapleton married, March 10 1747, Maria Margaretha LIGER[sic GEIGER],
dau of Valentine who came to New Hanover in 1717, and was a very prominent
man. ...John had but one son, John Jr., an officer in the Revolution and
grgreatfather of this writer. John Sr. died in 1754(same year as his father
in VA.) His widow survived him by 40 years.'
(Stapleton got this wrong too! Maria Margaret GEIGER was dau of Joh. Jacob
GEIGER whose will is shown above.)
I am not sure who the John STAPLETON is, in the estate in 1813, Albany Twp.,
with wife Barbara and Jacob Hagenbach as admin. I suspect he is son of
John and Magdalena Hagenbach. This John died 1809 in Albany and had a son
named John. This John had Friederich LUTZ, son-in-law.
I had made a note of George CLAUSER:
It is possible that John STAPLETON was married to a CLAUSER or his sister
married Geo. CLAUSER.
In admin. papers of George CLAUSER, Earl, 3/17/1794, admin was to
brother-in-law John STEBELTON, because the widow was insane.
The George CLAUSER who mentions a bro-in-law John STAPLETON, was married to
a Hannah. In baptisms at Pike Church - Oley Reformed, George and Hannah
CLAUSER have these children:
Susan CLAUSER born 12/9/1777, bp 4/19/1778, spons: Willhelm Muller and wife;
Elizabeth CLAUSER b 9/29/1779bp 5/7/1790, spons: William MILLER and
Elisabeth;
Catharine KLAUSER, born 10/14/1782, bp 4/6/1783, spons: Conrad BOHM and Eva
Elizabeth.
Johannes CLAUSER to George and Johana, b 2/14/1788, bp no date; spons: John
STEBELTON and Rosina.
Hannah KLAUSSER to George and Hanna, b 10/29/1792, bap 5/20/1793, spons:
Elizabeth MULLER.
So this tells me that Hannah would be born c 175? to have a child born 1777.
If that is the case, she would be a sister to John STAPLETON b 1751 who m
Rosina MUELLER. Maybe when the father, John Sr., died in 1754, she hadn't
been born yet. The will abstract for him only mentions son John and dau
Mary Elizabeth. Maybe the mother was pregnant when he died? with Hannah?
I believe also that Rosina MUELLER m John STAPLETON, Jr., is dau of Wilhelm
and Elizabeth MULLER.
Does anyone have the papers of John STAPLETON, probated in Phila Co in
4/1755?
Maybe they would show if the wife was pregnant when he wrote it, gave birth
to Hannah after his death?
1784tax list for Berks Co shows these STAPLETONs around the county:
Jacob STABLETON, Albany, no land owned, 3 cows
Robert STABLETON, Albany, 200 acres, 2 horses, 2 cattle
John STAPLETON, Earl, 50 acres
William STAPLETON, Earl, 50 acres
John STEBELTON, Albany 200 acres, 2 horses, 2 cattle
John STEBELTON, Oley, 150 acres, 4 horses, 4 c, 10 sheep, 3 people in h/h
William STEBELTON, Oley. 180 acres,4h, 5cows 11s 4 people in h/h
John STEPLETON, EDistrict, 50 acres

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Charles, Roy, and Lou SKINNER which was
taken at the Clauser Bros. Studio in Havana, Illinois. The photograph
appears to have been taken in the 1880's with the three children ranging in
age from about 3 - 6 years of age. The oldest and the youngest in the group
are boys, with the girl identified as "Lou".
I'm hoping to find someone from this family so that this precious family
treasure can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a
member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
