Hi Sandy,
I have been researching the Kuhn/Keehn family name for some time and am
very successful back to the early 1700s. My one weak point is as close to me
as my great grandfather. He was John Keehn 1820-? His wife was Susanna
Clauser (dates unknown). I know this to be accurate as both their names
appear on my grandfathers baptism certificate which I hold. Together they
had five children, one of which is my grandfather Peter George Keehn. Both
John and Susanna supposedly died early in life, leaving all five children to
be sent to be raised by various other relatives and friends. They lived in
Berks County, PA. I am interested in finding out the cause of death as well
as the dates of death for both, as well as the burial places for both. I
know that Peter George was confirmed at Jerusalem Reformed church in Rockland
Twp, Berks Co. I am currently researching to find if they might be buried
there?! Do you know anything about Susanna Clauser? Maybe if I can get a
lead on her, I can solve the mystery of my g-grandfather as well. Any of my
work is available to you as well if you would like. Eager to hear back from
you.

Hi Sandy,
Are you familiar with the book by Beulah Hix Blair, M.A. entitled, "Some Early Lineages of Berks County, PA - Clauser (Klauser) - Hicks (Hix) and Associated Lines" published in 1959? I just got my first look at it this past week and as you can imagine provides a great deal of information on the early Clausers. In it she writes, "According to tradition, the western and eastern branches of the Clauser line in Berks County are descended from the same immigrant. The ancestor of the eastern branch is certain, the ancestor of the western branch as being the same is based upon deduction. A cursory examination of Clauser immigrants who arrived before 1745 seems to show that the western branch may have had the same ancestor. Both lines used the variants Klauser, Clauser, Clowser, and Glasser." It seems to me that the Clauser spellings appears to be the most common but I guess one has to keep an open mind as to possible spelling variations.
I've been enjoying the dialog on the mailing list - and I likewise hope that we can all find some connections by sharing the information we have. Unfortunately, I have very little to go on so will have to learn as much as I can from all of you. Even though I haven't read the book by Beulah Hix in its entirety, it is been interesting. Some of it is difficult to follow - but it appears to have an index although I'm not sure it's complete. Would be happy to do some limited searching for those on the list if anyone would find that helpful. Thanks for all your help and look forward to learning more about the Clausers (sp.).

Thanks for both of your messages! Since you did not also send it to the
CLAUSER-L(a)rootsweb.com, do you mind if I forward them to the list? We
might just get some dialogue going and make some discoveries!
My family pronounces the Clauser as klowzer. So it does seem reasonable to
me that any of those spellings could be used. I saw the name Glauser while
digging through some genealogy sites and was curious about it. I am sure
the Klauser was one of the original spellings. I will need to check back
in a book where I found the original spelling (at least according to those
authors) which I believe was Klauss and they gave the meaning. I will let
you know what I find.
Let's keep in touch. I have been getting responses directly to me from
various people researching the name. I hope we can put us all together on
this mailing list and find some more connections!

My family tree for CLAUSERS so far includes the following states:
Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana. My great grandfather Alfred Monroe Clauser
and his brother Edgar Franklin Clauser were ministers in the Missionary
Church. Alfred reportedly preached one week in German and the next in
English.
Please share the states your family line represents thus far. Also, did
anyone else have family in the Missionary Church? What other churches have
been represented?

I thought I would pass this attachment in case some of you have not seen
it. I found it on Family Tree Maker. Does anyone make connections to it?
If so, would you be so kind as to post it to CLAUSER-L(a)rootsweb.com for the
rest of us to see?

Hi Al,
I am also a Clauser and we are probably related but I am on vacation in
Florida and don't have my "stuff" with me. My Clauser relatives left Berks
Co. PA in 1839 (I think) to settle in Tazewell and Mason Counties located in
IL. My ancestor is Jacob who had 2 brothers, Daniel and Conrad and some
sisters that I can't remember off hand. Perhaps I can touch base with you
again after I get back home (Champaign, IL).
By the way did you know that there was a rather famous Clauser who had a
country western band called Al Clauser and the Oklahoma Outlaws. They played
in one of the Gene Autry movies so he was quite well-known in the 40's. He
was a cousin so I have some music albums of songs he wrote and some neat
photos of him with Gene Autry and Smiley Burnette. I haven't seen the movie
however. Just a bit of trivia about a "cool" Clauser.
If you think about it contact me in April at fjohnson(a)cu-online.com
(notice this address is different from the one I'm using now) and ask me
about your Clausers.
Great to chat with you.
