Dear dlmz123,
I truly appreciate your rely but it should have gone to the first poster in this thread. My Anna Clausen or Claussen did not marry the person you mentioned. Then person who started the thread was looking for the Clausen's you replied about. My Anna married Johannes G. or John G. Miller. They were in Illinois. Thank you,
Patti

Hi Patti--I think I can help you with this:
Did your g grandmother marry Nickels Hansen? If so, we are researching the same family. The gentlemen you are looking for, Anna's brother, is Bernhard Cornelius Clausen. He was born in Husum on 5 April 1870 to Georg Bernhard Clausen (son of Asmus Clausen, son of Erick Claussen) and Katrina Henrietta Ketelsen. Barney (as he was known) led a very colorful life. In 1884, he emigrated (alone) to Clausen relatives in the midwest. Two years later, he hooked up with the US Army in the Black Hills of South Dakota as a scout. He was wounded and captured during a skirmish with the Sioux, but was nursed back to health by their women.
He settled in Omaha Nebraska for several years, and made one last trip back to Pellworm when he was thirty one. I suspect he may have brought his new bride, Henrietta K Stockfleth, of Schleiswig-Holstein back to the USA with him.
Barney and Henrietta settled in Washington State and spent most of their years in Spokane. The Clausens had five children: Henry B. Clausen (b.1903), Carl H. Clausen
(b. 1906), Clara H. Clausen (b. 1908), Alfred E. Clausen (b. 1911), and Paul A Clausen (b. 1916).
Barney had several vocations throughout his life. He was a farmer, a miner, and a saloon keeper. His saloon was in Creston or Spokane, WA. The Montana connection is through his sons Carl and Alfred who relocated to Missoula, Montana and ran the Clausen Refrigeration Company. There are Clausen descendants who live in Missoula, Bozeman, and Eureka, to name a few MT cities, to this day.
Barney died in Spokane in 1948, and his wife passed away in 1962.
