MAKES HUSBAND ANSWER FOR CRIME
Take Wife's Place in Jail When He Fails to Care for Child.
By United Press Leased Wire
Milwaukee -- Mrs. Lou?s Clausen, 32, was willing to go to prison for the sake of her child but when her husband, Herman Clausen failed to carry out his promise to find a suitable home for their 14 months old babe she turned him over to the police. Now Clausen is in jail for burglary while Mrs. Clausen is free to care for the baby.
Mrs. Clausen was arrested August 25 charged with burglarizing an apartment and stealing a wedding trousseau and jewelry. She admitted her guilt and was bound over to await trial. Her husband failed to place the child in a home and until last Sunday Mrs. Clausen kept it with her in her cell. Then she gave the child to relatives in Chicago for safekeeping.
Just before she appeared in court Thursday for trial Mrs. Clausen admitted her confession was false and given to shield her husband who had actually committed the crime. The woman was freed and Clausen jailed.
