I am also interested in the family of Barnhard Claus. His sister, Magdalena Claus Schneider is my gg-grandmother. My great-grandfather, Louis (Ludwig) Schneider lived with Barnhard (Bernard) according to the 1860 Iowa Census. Hope to learn about my gg-grandmother's siblings and families.
Magdalena Claus Schneider brought her 8 children to the US after her husband, Joseph Schneider died. Magdalena died while at sea according to our family history. The children went to Erie County, NY where there were relatives. Ludwig was still young, so he went to reside with his uncle in Iowa. By 1870, he had moved to Seneca County, Ohio where he married and had his family. My g-grandfather's obituary specifically mentions living with relatives in Iowa.
The Schneider family eventually married and moved to Michigan and Ohio.
Magdalena Claus Schneider children names: Joseph, who also died while young and we do not have details for him. Magdalena Schneider Gerber (Ohio), Catherine Schneider Walter (New York), Elizabeth Schneider Umlor (Michigan), Mary Anna Schneider Omlor (Michigan), Sr. Mary Casimir (Eva Schneider professed in the Precious Blood Order, buried in Ohio), Louis (Ludwig) (Ohio) and John Schneider (Michigan)
I look forward to connecting with Claus family members.
