Hello Claunch researchers. I am going down another rabbit trail trying to find my elusive ggrandfather, John G Claunch. I have discovered a 1850 census of District 40, St Clair County, Alabama in which is listed a Mary Ann Claunch, age 18 with a child named George Claunch, age 1 month old. The two are listed as living in the household of a Thomas Fletcher, age 60 with no wife but having 4 children of his own.
I am going on the assumption that the middle initial of my John G Claunch may very well be for George since George is the most common G name.
Additionally, the family story indicates that John's father abandoned he and his mother which would match why she and George are listed living in another household. Not sure if this Mary Ann Claunch is related to Thomas Fletcher in any form. It is obvious her maiden name is not Claunch. She was born in TN and George in AL. My grandfather did indicate that his father was born in AL in a census.
I would greatly appreciate it if anyone has this Mary Ann Claunch in their line or has any info on her to share it with me if only to eliminate her as a possible mother to my John G Claunch. My John G was born about 1850 and died in Hopkins County, Texas on 23 Jan 1881.
