Hi..
I was hoping someone could help me with an interesting problem. My
ggrandfather was George Talton Claunch (1877 Tishomingo CO MS -1940
Tishomingo Co MS) son of Love Claunch and Nancy Lucinda Owens.
George disappeared from his family in Tishomingo Co, MS (leaving
wife/children) sometime after the 1920 census and didn't return until around
1935. I thought he had never told anyone where he went, but I just heard
from a cousin that George had mentioned to this man's father that George
had been in NYC during those missing years.
This same cousin told me, while on a business trip to NYC ca 1975 he came
across the name Carl Dewitte Claunch in the phone book.. And wondered if
this was a son of George's. The name Carl Dewitte Claunch was also the name
of George's 1st cousin and best friend in Tishomingo County, MS.. So now I'm
wondering if George didn't name a son after his friend..
Does anyone know of any Claunchs in NYC area ?? Can anyone help with this
puzzle???
Thank you,
Cay Devin

I acquired a photograph that states "Gladys Claunch" on the back. It was taken in Liberal, Missouri, and I'm guessing it's in the early 1900's. I want to pass this photo on to someone in her line. I don't know if this Gladys Claunch is the one who married a Day in 1918, or if this is the same Gladys that did genealogical research.
Divorce of Alexander Clonch and Mary E. Clonch as found in Mason Co., WV Chancery Order Book March term 1880, p 274 The marriage was disolved, Mary did not appear and she does not get her dower and must pay costs. Interesting case. Alexander had two other wives before this divorce was final. Of course Mary had eight children by John Clonch, Alexander's brother by this time too.
