>From the Pension Application of Chloe Clontz, widow of George Clontz who was
a private in the N.C. Line. Inscribed on the Roll at the rate of 30 Dollars
00 cents per annum, to commence on the 4th day of March 1843. Certificate
of Pension issued the 20th day of February 1845 and sent to Hon. D. M.
Barringer, Ho. Of Reps. Act of March 3, 1843. Recorded in Book "a", Vol.
2, page 153.
State of North Carolina,Buncomb County. Court of Pleas and Quarter
Sessions, April Term 1844.
On this 2nd day of April one thousand eight hundred and forty four, 1844
personally appeared before the court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of said
County. It being a court of Record, Cloe Clontz, a resident of the County
and State aforesaid aged seventy eight (78) years, who being first duly
sworn according to law, doth on her oath make the following declaration in
order to obtain the benefit of the provisions made by the act of Congress
passed July 7th 1835. "Entitled an Act granting half pay and pension to
certain widows". That she is the widow of George Clontz, (_?) Pensioner
deceased of Burke County, North Carolina, who was a Sergeant in the N.
Carolina Continental Line in the War of the Revolution and was allowed a
pension as such at the rate of Forty five, 45 dollars per annum.
She further declares that she was married to the said George Clontz in
Mecklenburg County, N.Carolina in the summer of the year of Seventeen
hundred and Eighty Three (1783) about the close of the Revolution, that her
husband the aforesaid George Clontz died on the 20th day of October Eighteen
hundred & thirty eight (1838), Buncombe County N. Carolina and that she has
remained a widow ever since that period that she was not married to him
prior to his leaving the service, but the marriage took place previous to
the first of January Seventeen hundred and ninety four, Viz; at the time
above stated.
She also declares that she had no Family Record,

State of North Carolina, MacDowell County. On this 29th day of January 1843
personally appeared before me, Chas. Mackey one of the acting magistrates in
and for the County aforesaid, Catherine Claunce, a resident of said County
and State, and made oath in due form of Law, that she is the oldest child of
George & Chloe Claunce, the former a Revolutionary pensioner deceased of
Burke County, N. Carolina and the latter now a resident Citizen of Buncombe
County & State aforesaid and that she depousant was born the first of
February in the year Seventeen hundred & eighty five (1785) according to the
best of her knowledge and belief, that she has no record of her age, but
that she has always understood from her parents that she was born in the
year above stated, and that she is now in her sixtieth year of her age and
that she is the oldest child of the aforesaid George & Chloe Claunce and she
further stated on her oath that there is no Record of the ages of any of the
children's ages in any branch of the family to her knowledge.
