Questions by the Court
1st. Where were you born & in what year.
I was born in Mecklenburgh (now Cabarras) N.C. in May 1760. I have no
record of my age, this is only what they tell me.
2nd. Where were you living when called into Service, where have you lived
since the Revolutionary War and where do you live now?
In Mecklenburgh N.C. (Now Cabarras) When I enlisted in the war I lived
there till about 1808, then moved to this county and have lived here ever
since.
3rd. How were you called into the Service
I enlisted for 9 months.
4th. State the names of the regular officers who were with the troops where
you lived___? Continental & Militia Regiments as you recollect and the
general circumstance of your Service.
In consequence of failure of memory I can state but little about my service
but that I know that when we marched first I was under General Davidson
until I was furloughed there were continentals there for we were ___? then
called continentals that after I was furloughed (which furlough I have
earned). I returned home & there stayed about 3 months when called ___?
again __? Wounded at Charlotte, N.C. about the 5th of November 1778 &
marched under Captain Jack __? __? When in Purisburgh as before stated was
attached to Captain Goodens Company of regulars which [Note: copy was
crooked on page and lost probably 3 words here. Mary] placed in Col.
Culmedy'(?)s light infantry had several little skirmishes with the British
before the battle of Stone was in that Battle the Americans? Were commanded
by General Lincoln. We were forced to retreat for we were only a small
party for the army, there were many men killed. I recollect one First
Lieutenant under Col. Mulmedy was shot through the arm close to the body &
died the next day at the Black __?. We then moved up to Bacon's Bridge 2 or
3 weeks I was there taking licks (?) & I __? Therein were hauled to Camden &
there left in a suffering state from when my father carried me home after my
time had expired so that I was never discharged but left by my officers.

And the court do hereby declare their opinion options the investigation of
the matter and after putting the interrogatories prescribed by the war
department, that the above named applicant George Clontz was a revolutionary
soldier, and served as he states and that court further certifies that
General Joseph Graham who has made the certificate marked (A) is known to
them to be a man of the first respectability & though his residence is in
the County of Lincoln he is well known here and has the general reputation
to have been a faithful soldier & officer of the revolution and is a man of
undoubted virtuocity.
