Thus far in my short research I found the Class or Clas surname is a variant of the german names Klaas, Klas and Claus. In the 1800's other Class show up in Scotland but them too are of german origin. As of Puerto Rico it seems that all Class are related and originally from the coolest mountain region of Ciales and them moving towards the town of Manati and the rest of the island. My mother's maiden name is Class, she's from Manati, Puerto Rico. Thus far the surname Class cannot be trace back to Spain although they may have come to PR via Spain. Since Spain was a world power like the USA is today, it is possible to see other europeans comimg to the "New World" via Spain. Also Keep in mind, and according history, the spaniards came to America before the Pilgrims settle in the USA. On April 2, 1513, Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de Leon landed on what he called La Florida-the first documented European arrival on what would become the U.S. mainland. The city of Saint Augustin!
e, Florida, the oldest city in the USA, was founded in 1565. So it is possible for the Class to have move back and forth between the mailand and PR. Hope this help. Keep me posted if you come accross some additional information.

Help! I am new at doing ancestry and have hit a brick wall.
I've traced my family to Barton Swerer (B 10 Sept. 1837) and I THINK his parents were John Swearer (b. abt. 1805) and Mary Mitchell (b. abt. 1811) I can't find much on John and haven't a clue who his parents were or where they came from. If anyone could steer me in the right direction, I would be soooo grateful.
Thanks, Judy @jkb1948(a)yahoo.com.
