You are right; I probably confused you and I believe I know why. You are using the name Gerrard as a FIRST name and I'm using it as a last name. Don't know if the following will help, but here goes.
Benjamin Clary and Eleanor Gerrard were my 6th great-grandparents. Eleanor was born in 1725 and died in 1818. Eleanor's father was Daniel Gerrard and he was my 7th g-grandfather. Benjamin and Eleanor had a son they named Benjamin. Benjamin SR., father was John Clary and his mother was Elizabeth Haly and before her he was married to Mary Turner. John Clary was married to Judith Layton and his father was James Clary and he was married to Susanna Beheman. There were many, many children in the Clary clan and before I got it squared away I had to check, re-check, and check again to make sure I had the right John, James, Benjamin, etc. I'm thinking that the folks you are looking for was one of the children who certainly could have migrated to Ohio. These folks would have been my great uncles and aunts about 7-8 generations ago. As you have probably found out, you can go crazy searching. By the way, the Rowlands who wrote the book lived about 1/2 mile from where I lived.

Not sure what you are saying. My Gerrard, according to the 1850 U.S. census, was born about 1800 in Maryland and was residing at that time in Guernsey Co, OH. This census lists his wife as Charlotte. Charlotte Holland and Gerrard Clary were married in Belmont Co, OH on 18 Nov 1829. Gerrard Clary is listed in the 1830 U.S. census in Warren Twp, Belmont Co, OH.
I do not know who this Gerrard Clary's father was, but it appears that Gerrard Clary is a well-used family name. The Clary book by Mr. Rowland states that the many Gerrard Clary's he has found were all descendants of Benj. Clary & Eleanor Gerrard.
I have checked several Gerrard Clarys myself and indeed they all descend from this couple.

The Gerrard you refer to in Maryland is from there, as were many of the Clary's. He is not the Gerrard from Belmont, OH. This isn't really any help to you, but at least you won't waste time checking out the wrong one. Gerrard is one of my ancestors, as is Benjamin and Eleanor. This Clary family had its roots begin in Surry, VA.

I am trying to connect Gerrard born about 1800 in MD to his parents. I assume he is the grand or great-grandson of Benjamin Clary & Eleanor Gerrard.
My Gerrard was married in Belmont Co, OH 1829 to Charlotte Holland. He moved from Belmont County to Guernsey County where he was last found in the 1850 census.
