It appears your ancestor Ashford Dowden Clary was the son of John Clary (b.1740). This John Clary is the brother of my 5x great grandfather, William Clary. John's parents are John Clary (b.1706) and Mary Deveron (b.1713), both of MD. I believe John's wife was Ester "Dowden" Coffee. They married in 1763 and had Ashford Dowden Clary (1768-1820) and John (1774-1850). Hope this helps!

If you are related to the MD Clarys (namely John Clary who was tied to the Halys and Deverons of MD), we are of very distant relation. There is a book called, "Clary genealogy: Four early American lines and related families," that was very helpful in my search. It is very expensive on Amazon, but I was able to find it at the Maryland Law Library to copy some pages. Pretty neat stuff!

R - thanks for the comeback. My Clary relatives are from Appling & Wayne Co, GA. First one to move there -- originally from Maryland -- was Upton, his wife Mary Southwell from Barnwell, SC. Their son, Joshua (& wife Cassandra Westberry), their son, Henry Clary (& wife Margaret Daniel), their daughter -- my grandmother -- Ella Clary Ahl. Upton is assumed to be the son of Ashford Dowden Clary, g'son (assumed) of John and G-g'son of John and GG-g'son of Thomas. All these latter from Maryland and Virginia. Ashford and son Upton did relocate to Newberry Dist, SC. There were so many Clary's with the same name that research is extremely difficult. Hope you make a connection with some of this. Jim

I am also descended from Agrippa Clary, b. abt 1810 Kentucky, died Pike Co, MO. I have been researching him for about 25 years and still don't know much about his parentage.
I know his sister Martha was born in NC abt 1802, his brother Robert was born abt 1812 in KY and believe he also had a sister Mary, b. 1806 KY, and maybe a brother William b. abt 1812 in KY, who was living next door to Agrippa in Pike Co, MO in 1880.
I recently discovered a possible clue to his parents - Mary Ann Clary, b. abt 1790 in Georgia, who married Reuben Scott in Cumberland Co, KY. The Scott's lived near and intermarried with Agrippa's brother Robert and his descendants. This Mary Ann Clary's death certificate lists her father as Robert C. Clary, b. Virginia and mother Nancy Clary. I have found this Nancy/Agnes living with Michael Davidson and his wife Mary Clary, b. abt 1806 in KY. It seems likely that this Mary Clary is a sister of Agrippa and Robert.
I would love to hear how you are related to Agrippa.
Margaret

Clary is my family line. Mine were in Alabama and NW Florida. Where are your Clary relatives ? My Clary line is also related to Gavin, Richbourg, and Siegler in these same areas. Back in the 1700's and early 1800's many were in South Carolina.

Looking for information on the parents of Agrippa Clary, born 1810 in Tennessee or Kentucky, married Lucinda Harvey, d. after 18880 in Pike County, Missouri.
I'm trying to find his parents. Would be happy to share what I know if the decedents. But am completely stumped on getting any further back than Agrippa.
He is my four times great grandfather.

Recently took one of the Ancestry DNA tests. To date no Ahl (All, Aull, Aal, etc.). Also no Tyre (Mother) or Clary (P-G'mother). Finally got a hit this week on a Tippins (M-G'mother). Convinced the test does work as have had matches on many other 3 or 4th cousins. Just wondering, do you plan to have or know of a Clary (or Tyre, Ahl, Tippins) that has submitted a DNA sample? Would really like to see some matches a little closer to me.
