Wow! Thank you for taking so much time to fill in details. I loved reading the details.
Just wondering if in your notes anywhere you might have any info on a brother or cousin Clary who might have come into the state in the early 1800's who stayed behind in southern Illinois. My Clary relatives claim their parents were born in Illinois which would make their births around 1800 - 1810ish. There were so few white folks in the state then, but from my reading many Carolinians were coming up through KY through Pope County on their way to Clary's Grove, I've wondered if maybe some stayed behind in the river counties??
My GG grandfather was Edmund Vincent Clary (b. 1835 in IL) and I believe he had a sister Jerushia (b. 1826) and a brother Henry (b. 1832) who all lived in Pope, Gallatin, or Hardin counties.
If you have any theories, I'm all ears.
Thanks again for your input.

Hi Jack,
You may recall our email correspondence earlier this year and that I'm a Summers descendant (from Dent).
As you know, Daniel Clary & Eleanor Deveron's dau. Eleanor m. Joseph Summers (my 6th gr-grand uncle).
I have not done much research on the Clary clan. But, this week I was contacted by Mrs. Mary Ann Clary who has. She has shared some intriguing and apparently thorough research and I hope she will be soon sharing more.
Essentially, she presents compelling evidence that perhaps Daniel (I) & Eleanor Deveron Clary did not migrate from MD to SC but instead, their son Col. Daniel (II) m. Fanny NMN did and it is he who was the well-known Loyalist. And, that Daniel II & Fanny had a son Daniel (III) who coincidentally m. a woman named Fanny Wills and had several children. This info contradicts the current thinking that it was Daniel I & Eleanor who migrated to SC and was the Loyalist together with their son Daniel II. But, if we think about it, Daniel I was reportedly b. abt 1710 so would have been an old man by the time of the Loyalists furor.
Basically, Mary Ann introduces this new evidence and effectively another generation (i.e. Daniel III m. Fanny Wills) plus, she provides additional info which debunks other research mistakes involving collateral lines which I won't go into here.
I am impressed with the info and documents which Mary Ann Clary has provided to-date. As I told her, it is worthwhile to investigate the issue of whether or not Daniel I m. Eleanor Clary did/did not migrate from MD to SC, and is the crux of this post. I've begun to investigate records which would shed light on this subject and am hoping others will join in to assist to clear-up this point.
I've seen other posts that state Daniel I was in MD until, at least 1773. But so far, I've not been able to locate MD records beyond an August1763 land sale in Baltimore Co, MD which is available online at the Maryland State Archives website and includes a couple other land transactions. I have not found any other records (wills, probates, etc) beyond this date. On the surface one might conclude that Daniel I & Eleanor were divesting themselves of property in anticipation of a move but this is pure speculation only.
Or, one might conclude that they died or lived with a relative until their deaths in MD? But, a cursory review of sources (Brumbaugh, etc) shows very little records for any Clary in MD for 1776 and beyond which doesn't dispel either that Daniel & Eleanor did/did not leave MD because one can infer opposing views.
I have yet to find any SC records that conclusively match to Daniel I & Eleanor. In 1790 census for Ninety-Six District, Newberry, SC are listed two Daniel Clary and a Jas. Clary but not much can be deduced from the general age categories. [I should note also that no Joseph Summers was listed either) I have not located an Edgefield 1790 census which I believe was, at that time, separate from Newberry so don't know if there were Clary or Summers listed there, at that time.
Hoping anyone with info or thoughts will respond. Feel free to contact me direct.
Thanks,
Del Groves
