Thank you for the information. Yes, I know where the St. Augustine Catholic
cematory is at Reed. I lived only a few miles or less from it for most of
my early life and pass it every week going to my mother's. The William
Clary I am trying to locate is Enoch's father. He was borned 26 July 1826
in Daviess County, Kentucky.

Dale,
I may or may not have your William Clary? This is the son of Enoch I. Clary.
The tombstone is located in Reed KY in the Catholic cematary. The
inscription reads: William C. Clary 6-4-1884 8-31-1936 (although the 36 was
not clear) and Nora Clary 8-10-1884 1-18-1951.
Since you were raised in the area you probably know where the cemetery is
located (go east from Henderson on 60 towards Owensboro).

I wanted to send both of you a little information. I did indeed find

Good point, I didn't look closely at the dates but there is a William
Jackson Clary b. 1857 in Texas to William and Elizabeth that may be the
correct father. I actually have 8 children listed for William Jackson
b. 1832 including that one and most are sourced from a descendant. I
have referred the original question author to that direct descendant of
William Jackson Clary (Sr.) just in case he might have better
information that could be of use.
It's possible that reference refers to the wrong wife of William (Sr.)
or mistakenly skips a generation because of ambiguities in census data
with multi-generational households especially when you've got two
identically named men living in the same household.
Note that Linette, who wrote the origional request, may not see your
reply (or this one) as the original message was posted to the RootsWeb
board which gets automatically copied to this list. Replies to those
cross-posts don't find their way automatically back to the board. I'm
copying her with this reply as I don't think she's a subscriber to this
list.
As to your Grover Cleveland Clary, I don't appear to have a James Henry
Clary in my research nor indeed anyone from Colorado or Nebraska. It's
certainly possible that your Grover Cleveland is the one Linette is
looking for, though. I'd be interested to see how your James Henry
Clary may or may not link up to my tree.

Dale,
I have been doing the genealogical research for both sides of my families
tree, therefore my interest in the Clary discussions. My wife is Carolyn
Joyce Clary who was born and raised in Henderson, KY. I have replied to Siri
at PeopleLogic telling her of my wife's and her close connections (Enoch
Ignatius Clary and her William Clary were brothers).
I met a lady named Marsha Clary Royster who was, at lease a few years back,
living in Henderson, Ky. Are you somehow related to her? Marsha was (and may
still be) active in Clary research and I received allot of data from her. I
did not, however, see your name in any of the lineage that she had printed
out.
If you have addition detail on the dates for the children of John Clary I
would appreciate them. I have some discrepancies in the names of his
children. My data came from Marsha. I have the following a children of John
and Elisabeth:
William - M -1826
Elizabeth - F -
Frances - F -
Henry - M - 1815
John Jr. - M - 1820
Margaret - F - 1831
No Francis or Timothy

My Clary lineage also originates in Daviess County, Kentucky. William is
also my gggrandfather. His, Enoch Ignouis, is my ggrandfather and his son,
James Ernest, my grandfather. William's wife was Francis Crabtree. I have
found no reference to her being a native american. William's father was
John Clary. He was borned 15 August 1772 and came from Galway County,
Ireland. His mother was Elizabeth Dobbin also from Ireland. John Clary
died 11 April 1853 in Daviess County, Kentucky. I do not know where he is
buried. They lived in the Panther District of Daviess County. Known
children of John and Elizabeth were:
William, Francis (borned in Ireland), Timothy, Fannie, Eliza, Henry, and
Margaret. John was one of the first settlers of Daviess County.
Francis Crabtree father was Moses Crabtree of Washington County, Virginia.
Her mother was Hannah Bloomer. The Crabtree's migrated from England to
Maryland to Virginia to Kentucky. There is a book with a wealth of
information on the Crabtree's named "The Crabtrees of Southwest Virginia.
I wish success in researching our line of Clarys. It is very hard to find
any information.

Thanks so much for your reply! Keeping in mind that I'm rather new at this, here's additional information I've collected:
1. I've visited Cleve's gravesite in Euless, Texas (where he was living at the time of his death), and his headstone reads "Daddy" b. 1/09/1887, d. 10/20/1925. Newspaper accounts as well as his death certificate state that he left a wife and small child, but their names are not listed in any of these documents. Interestingly, the purchaser of the headstone (presumably his child) misspelled his name as G. Cleave Clary, although the death certificate spells it correctly. Also, this stone was placed a significant time after his death. This leads me to believe that this person had limited contact with Cleve.
2. The 1900 census shows Cleveland Clary (b. 1887 in Texas) as the son of John Jordan Clary (b. Illinois about 1846 (related possibly to William Jackson Clary???) and Ellen Walker Clary (b. 1855 Texas - father from Tennessee). They were living in Chickasaw Territory, OK. This Cleve has five siblings - John, Lizzie, Luther, Zoole and Parker. I haven't been able to trace any of these siblings.
3. The 1910 census shows a Grover Cleveland Clary (b. 1887 in Texas) living in Throckmorton, TX with his wife Mary L. Bobo and their two young daughters Ruby G. (b. 1905) and Lessie L. (b. 1908, d. 1910 post-census). Cleve was 25 at this time, and Throckmorton, TX is approx. 100 miles directly south of the Chickasaw area in Oklahoma. This census (as well as his death certificate) show birthplace of both parents as 'unknown'. (John Jordan Clary died sometime in the 1890's in unknown Indian Territory - if this is Cleve's father, it may be why parents' birthplace is stated as 'unknown' - Cleve would have been 10-13 y.o. at the time of his father's death).
4. The 1920 census which shows that Mary L. Bobo Clary is now married to John Corbett Gist and living in Callahan Cty, Tx. with Gist's stepdaughter (Mary and Cleve's daughter), Ruby G. Clary, age 15. Ruby's father, Grover Cleveland Clary (from the 1910 census) is nowhere to be found, and is not listed in the military records from WWI.
5. 1925 - Grover Cleveland Clary is killed near Euless Texas in an automobile accident. Full circle back to #1 above, but no details on who he was then married to, or the gender or age of his child. The funeral home in Grapevine, TX that handled his burial will not release any information only to confirmed family members (87 years later!!).
All in all, I may be looking at two different people, i.e. perhaps the G.C. Clary from the 1910 census died between 1910 and 1920, but I can't find a record of it, and the G.C. Clary who died in 1925 is completely untraceable(??).
My goal is to learn if any descendents of the Cleve Clary that died in Euless in 1925 are still living.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a Grover Cleveland Clary b 1887 in Erath, TX but this is part of a branch of my tree that I'm not overly familiar with and he appears to be an unresearched leaf.
According to my data, his parents were:
William Jackson Clary
b. 11 Jun 1832 New Salem, Menard, IL, USA
d. 22 Apr 1889 Lipan, Hood, TX, USA
Elizabeth Jane Angely
b. 1836 New Salem, Menard, IL, US
d. Feb 1908 Lipan, Hood, TX, USA
This line is very close to a DNA confirmed cousin of mine descended from William Jackson Clary via another son Henry Newton Clary so I'll see if I can put you in touch with him. If there are any male paternal line descendants of your Cleve available we could confirm the link.
The parts of this tree where we have tested individuals is confirmed back to Daniel Clary b. 1710 in Maryland and purportedly son of John b. 1684 son of John b. 1660 son of Thomas b. ~1630 who emmigrated to the Virginia Colony in 1642 and/or 1653. The line appears to be South Irish in origin based on DNA evidence from multiple distantly related lines contrary to trees produced by past LDS researchers that have linked the line to France.

I have William Jackson Clary and Elizabeth Jane Angely in my database also,
but no children listed. However, If they were the parents of Grover
Cleveland Clary, Elizabeth Jane would have been over 50 when he was born.
In 1832 and 1836 New Salem was part of Sangamon County, Il. Menard Co. was
formed in 1839
I have a Grover Cleveland Clary born 18 July 1886 in Saline Co., NE. He
died 7 Oct 1947 in Loveland, Larimer Co., CO. Grover married Rosie Hollis in
Ft. Cobb, OK. They had 4 children. I show Grover's parents as James Henry
Clary and Sarah Ann Haram. Anyone know anything about these people???

Phoebe:

As to your Grover Cleveland Clary, I don't appear to have a James Henry
Clary in my research nor indeed anyone from Colorado or Nebraska. It's
certainly possible that your Grover Cleveland is the one Linette is
looking for, though. I'd be interested to see how your James Henry
Clary may or may not link up to my tree.
