Well, that definitely makes us related as John was my Great Uncle. It's great learning about family; just wish we could all get together.

I have had the pleasure of talking with some of the Clary's in Mountain Grove and they were very nice. It turned out that when John Clary (Pinkney's son) left Penna. and moved to Mountain Grove, he established quite a few of the Clary Clan both in Mo. and Texas. You have reminded me that I need to re-establish some ties with the folks out that way. For clarification, John was the brother of my great-grandfather, James. There was also another brother namd Thomas who remained in Greencastle, PA
Since your own Dad was living there at one time, would you by any chance have any photos of any of these Clary's that you might e-mail to me. The one thing I have alwlays lacked was anything visual that I could someday put in my record book.
Did your dad or any of the family ever tell you the story of why one part of the group left Missouri for Texas? The story I was told was pretty funny, but interesting too. Hoping to hear from you, and thanks for relying. Cheers, Bing Anne

It's been a while since I've been on this site, sorry I didn't get back sooner. My dad, Earle A. Clary was born, in Mountain Grove. Chalice moved the family to Texas. I know that he lived in Aransas Pass for a while, and sent a letter to grandmother saying they might move there. but in the long run he moved back to Port Arthur,TX.

John Alexander had a son Pinkney and a son Chalice Leslie, my grandfather. John moved his family to Mountain Grove Missouri.
Hello,
I have Clary's from Celina (Clary/Overton Co), TN, too. 1810-1860's.
I'm anxious to know more about your Clary's!

Those burned records and other important pieces to the puzzle, like the 1890
Federal Census again builds a case for the need for Molecular Genealogy, DNA.
BTW The Brunswick County records were saved during the War to Prevent
Southern Independance by a Masonic Flag. The County Clerk heard the Yankees
were coming and got out his Masonic Flag and laid it upon his clerk's desk and
went home. Later that day a Yankee rode up and gave him back his Masonic Flag,
thus the records for Burnswick Co., VA were spared.

I have been researching the Brunswick Co. Clary family since 1995, while
there in Brunswick Co. doing my research I met someone who has been doing research
on our surname probably since the 1950s or earlier. If anyone is
interested, contact me privately and I will give you the contact info for this
researcher who still is living right there in Lawrenceville.
I am quite interested to see any documentation on the connection between
Thomas Clary and Daniel Clary. DNA is the way to go folks. There are so many
missing records, for example, the records for the Brunswick Co. Quakers... went
Richmond to see if they have any in their archives. Oh yes, there is a
record that they existed but no actual records. The Surry Co. Clary's had lots
of Quakers... I'm sure we'd get a lot of great info from those missing
Brunswick Co. Quaker records. I know many people who have run out of records and
consequently run out of leads and that's where DNA comes in to fill in some of
the missing pieces, especially where you have multiple people with the same
names, like John Smith... How many John Smiths do you have? DNA can help figure
these things out.
I don't put much stock in opinions, World Family Trees and the all to common
"Copy & Paste" Genealogical research. I have the book by Ralph Rowland and I
have found some mistakes there. I guess the further we get from our own
line the less accurate we become just because the personal interest isn't there.
I can speak for my own research only not the MD Clary family.
My Clary line in Brunswick Co. goes back to Harwood Clary. I know the
cousin who owns the land that the original Clary mill was on and I plan to go
exploring someday and see what remains. And maybe all you descendants of Harwood
would like to go with me, we'll make a day of it.
If anyone is interested, I have some of my findings online.

If we're lucky, we can hang on to a piece of our childhood forever. The soft
feel of a favorite blanket or teddy bear; the look on the face of your first
puppy; the sound of the music played by the ice-cream truck. If we are
lucky, these are the kinds of memories that keep us from growing old too fast. ---
