Margaret,
I've checked the 1850 Lewis Co., MO census. It looks like that David was actually 8 years old. My David is found in Clinton Co., Illinois 1850 Census with sons Isaac and Hiram.
The best solution to "my" David is that he might be Vachel's son shown by some to be born in KY in 1795. Since the 1850 Clinton Census lists him as born in Ohio about 1789/90. Ohio was not a state then, but it is close to KY and perhaps the area was later considered Ohio.
Vachel's David had a wife Elizabeth Osman??? or Osborn??? I always wonder what the O. in Isaac O. Clary (David's son) stood for.

In the 1850 Lewis County, MO census is:
Clary, Samuel C. 68 M Farmer MD
Clary, Mary 61 F MD
Clary, John W. 30 M
Clary, Mary Ann 30 F
Clary, Charlotte 19 F
Clary, Susannah 18 F
Clary, David 98 M
Clary, Margarett 5 F
Clary, Samuel 3 M
(No place of birth given for anyone except Samuel C. and Mary)
Lewis County Missouri is across the Mississippi River from Adams County,
Illinois.
I think that this could be the Samuel C. Clary and wife Mary Brian who the
Rowland's (Four Generations..) speculate is the son of Benjamin Clary and
Catherine Unknown. In their book they state that they are not sure that he
is the son of Benjamin/Catherine. They (the Rowlands) state that Samuel is
unaccounted for after the census of 1840 in Ohio.
I am especially interested in the David Clary, age 98 who is living with
them. Could this be Samuel C.'s father? Is it the David Clary who was the
father of Hiram and Isaac? Or possibly an unidentified son of Vachel Clary
and Rachel Briggs?
Any ideas are most welcome!
Margaret
