Hi,
I have been seeking (unsuccessfully) information regarding my g-g-grandfather Michael Cleary. He was born in or about 1832 in a place called Clahane in Kerry. He came to the US in 1850- first to New York, then Holyoke, Massachusetts, Montague, Massachusetts and finally to Bennington, New Hampshire where he remained for the rest of his life. At some point he married Elen Driscoll. Their children were: Andrew, John, Dennis, Margret and Elen. Andrew my g-grandfather maried Margret Cashion of Bennington and had two children Wilbur and Ave Maria. I would love to hear from anyone with links to or information regarding this family. Lee,
Thanks for the information. I am wondering if Matilda is a part of the
Frederick Co., MD group or if it is just a coincidence that she appears in the
same places with that group of Clarys. Perhaps, being a woman, she was somehow
skipped over in the records. Do you happen to know if she lived near Jacob
Stotts in the 1820 Census? I will check this myself when I get the time. It
seems strange that both women would be in Belmont Co. at the same time, and also
in Guernsey Co. I will check the Census records for Guernsey Co. also.
Thanks,
Marilyn Logue

Marilyn and Erin, I check the what the Rowlands say in their genealogy of
the CLary Family:
The do not seem to have a Matilda of the right era,
Michel Clary is listed as d/o William Clary and Rachel Hall. b. 26 Jan 1795
Frederick MD, d. bef 1850 OHIO, married 7 April 1818 Enoch Galloway (b.
1797 PA, d. 1870 OH) issue John b. ca 1821
two daughters b. 1820-1830, Henry b. 1831, Mary b. 1833, Thomas b. 1837,
Caleb b. 1837, Enouch b. ca 1840, Esther b. ca. 1842, AMos b. 1847.
Note says that Michel birth record first German Reformed Church, named for
her mother's sister
Michel Hall Moved to OH with her mother,
William CLary pvt in Rev War in Balto. Co., MD Wm b. ca. 1752 bALTO. cO.
DIED 1798 fREDERICK cO., md
WIDOW moved to Ohio with children ca 1808, widow Rachel Hall was daughter
of Benjamin HALL.
William was one of 17 children of Benjamin CLARY and wife Eleanor (I also
am a descendant of Benjamin),
Benjamin was one of the sons of John CLary and Elizabeth Haley..

Erin,
I was beginning to wonder if anyone was on this CLARY mailing list. You
are the first person who has posted anything since I subscribed.
Anyway, My CLARY is Matilda Clary. She was born in Maryland about 1786,
and married Jacob Stotts who was also born in Maryland. They moved to Ohio
in the very early 1800's, living first in Jefferson Co., Ohio and then
moving to Pease Township, Belmont Co., Ohio. Eventually, they moved to
Guernsey Co. and settled in Beaver Township. By 1830, they were
divorced--but by then they had 12 or 13 children. Matilda Clary Stotts
continued to stay in Beaver Township in 1830 but moved to Seneca Township in
1840, perhaps to be close to her daughter (and my ancestor), Sarah Ann, and
her husband, Moses Morris. In 1840, there is also an Edward Clary living in
Seneca Township; I don't know that he lives particularly close to Matilda
or is even related, but he is in her age range, so it is possible that he
could be a brother.
What townships did Enoch Galloway and Michael live in?

Micheal CLARY born 15 Jan 1795, and died 15 Jun 1828. She married
Enoch GALLOWAY, Sr., 8 Apr 1818 in Belmont Co., OH. They had five
children: William (1819-1828), John (1821-1888), Sarah (1823-1843),
Harriet (1825-1850), and Katharine (stillborn 1828). John GALLOWAY
married Rachel Rebecca CLARY (1821-1890) in 1843 in Guernsey Co., OH.
John & Rachel had nine children; one was Avis (1846-1904). Avis GALLOWAY
married John J. CLARY (1838-1909) in 1865 in Guernsey Co., OH. John &
Avis moved to Gallia Co., OH, and raised their 12 children in southern
Ohio. Any information for any of these families would be greatly
appreciated.
In researching some related lines, I find ties to Licking/Fairfield Co.,
Ohio. For years (decades?) I've known David Clary was noted to have been
born in Ohio in either 1789/90 (or maybe what was considered Ohio
territory). Anyway, the trail from here goes to Indiana (Daviess Co.) then
Crawford Co. IL then Clinton Co., IL then on to Kansas.
Related line included Levingston.
Can anyone help?
Dwayne

I have been following my grandfather Jesse Clary's line. I have been able
to get Jesse, George Albert, Jessee, Amos and most recently John Clary who
was married to Ann Thomas. I need help in establishing the identity of
John's father. If anyone else is following this line and has some
imformation for me I would appreciate it.
