Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I've just got my webpage up and running. It mostly deals with searchable
indices for Colorado, but I've also included a tutorial section on how to read
legal descriptions (which is what I do for a living) and a list of land
measurement unit conversions, and a list of all the Bureau of Land Management
Offices. Drop by if you have time.

Hi, my name is Teresa Cleary Smith. I am looking for leads on my father's
line. Michael John Cleary (1825-1901)emigrated from Limerick, Ireland
(departure date FEb 9, 1886) with his wife Mary Ellen Woods (1842-1906) to
Cavalier, ND via Halifax, Nova Scotia. They brought with them 8 of their
children, being preceded by daughter Ellen Brown to find land. They left
some older children behind, but I don't know how many.

Yesterday I called Mr. John Cleary in Dublin and he told me the group had
disbanded but was considering the possibility of reorganizing. When they
do I'll let you know. We are going to Ireland in Sept. Sure wish I could
talke like he does! I love an Irish brogue. I'll leave you with this
"Nollaig Shona Druit". Pronounced "Null-ig Hunn-ah Ditch". Happy
Christmas.

Please pardon me, if this is a duplicate! I just found out I was not
subscribed to my own lists! This occurred because one of my e-mail
addresses was not changed at rootsweb.com when it was recently changed.
Original message below:
Hi everyone.
For your information, all lists on rootsweb.com will now be closed per the
following message. If you subscribe at one e-mail address, but frequently
use another, please let me know and I can put your second address on an
"accept" list.
* This announcement is to let you know that we've just finished
"closing" all of the RootsWeb lists. This means that the list server will
only let you post to a mailing list if you subscribe to it.
* I'm sorry that this had to be done so hastily, but we didn't really
have any choice. The volume of spam that was being sent through our lists
had reached a phenomenal level, and I was spending most of my time on that
problem rather than improving the systems. Worse, some users had begun to
send spam complaints to sites that were completely unrelated to RootsWeb,
but could kill our network connection if they received too many complaints.
Closing the lists to subscribers became a matter of self-preservation. If a
non-subscriber posts, I'll get the message and will redirect it to the list.
Now, how about generating some activity???
Here's an interesting web site:

A cousin has found a name on a passenger list when looking for CLARDY.
We are looking for the Immigrant CLARDY ancestor, don't know how the name
was spelled at that time of emigrating.
Does anyone on the CLARY List know anything about the following:
[CLARLY, George] in the 1685. source - Caldham, Peter Wilson- English
Public records of those who took Ship to America for Political,
Religious, and Economic Reasons of those who were deported for Vagracy,

Hi everyone,
Some of the ancestors I am researching are MC CLEARY, MC CLARY. I believe
they moved to the Trumbull Co. Ohio in the early 1800s from Pa. The earliest
McCleary documented is
1st. generation; George MC CLEARY b. abt 1775 Pa. m. Margaret ?
2nd generation; son Alexander MC CLEARY (Mc Clary) b. Jun 20, 1804 in Pa, m.
Anna Hudson, daughter of Richard Hutson. Alexander and Anna had 11 children.
3rd generation; John Jackson McClary b. July 10, 1833, in Trumbull Co., Ohio
m. Sarah J. (Campbell) Dean in Niles, MI January 1, 1870.
Looking for information confirming George's father, whom we believe to be
Alexander McCleary b. 1756 in Ireland and died March 14, 1845, in Liberty Twp.
Trumbull Co., Ohio
Also looking for information about Margaret, George's wife.
Hope to hear from a distant cuz.

FHC is the Latter Day Saints (LDS) Family History Center. The
microfilmed copy I received was a very clear film, with an index.
And it took about 2 weeks to get in in. They will let you keep it for a
month or longer, if needed, so there's plenty of time to copy whatever
anyone needs.
Suzy
Dear Suzy,
I was the one who wrote about copying the book. Thanks for the tip on
ordering from FHL. I ordered it once, but it came on microfilm, which
was not very satisfactory. Were you able to get the real book? Thanks
for the catalog no., etc. Will you send me the address you ordered
from? Thanks. Libba
Whoops,
Guess I should have read all my messages before sending my note on bidding
on the auction. Thanks Phoebe for your offer of lookups. When I left for
out of town, the bidding was around the $30 mark. No wonder I got outbid!

I will call the son again in the next few days and ask him about a
reprint of
the book. I just bought the book that was auctioned on E-bay. It
was
expensive in the auction. I don't have a clue what it would cost to
do a
reprint or how many would have to be printed, but I will find out.
I paid $83
including postage for the one on E-bay. However, I bought the same
book years
ago (can't find it now it either got packed away when we moved 5
years ago or
I loaned it to someone and never got it back) for around $25
including
postage. I know several of my cousins who would like to have the
book. I
will report back to you what I find out. In the mean time if you
want me to
look up anything in it let me know and I'll answer as soon as
possible.

Good idea. BTW, I attempted to buy a copy of the book for use by the list
recently at an on-line auction. I got outbid, but believe one of the list
members was in the running. Unfortunately, I had to go out of town on my
paying job, and was not able to outbid the winner. If you were the
fortunate one who bought the book and would be willing to share, please
contact me. Thanks.

Someone wrote about copying the Rowland's book recently. I ordered
it
through the FHC and it is close to 600 pages long which would be
quite a
copying task. Why not just order it? The catalog number is:
1033747
and it just costs $3.50.
My Rachel Clary, b. 1767 in Rowan Co., NC is not listed as a child
of
William Donovan Clary, but the process of illimination sure does
point
to him. Proof would be nice to find, but that most likely will not
happen.

Hi,
Please note everyone. If you wish to subscribe/unsubscribe, you should send
the command to:
CLARY-L-request(a)rootsweb.com <mailto:CLARY-L-request@rootsweb.com>
NOT to the list which is clary-l(a)rootsweb.com <mailto:clary-l@rootsweb.com>
I have been in Florida and Georgia seeking all types of ancestors and
current relatives :>) and been unable to generate much myself and handle
some administrative matters, such as directing those who wish to
subscribe/unsubscribe. Note, if you're just going to be away for a short
time may I suggest setting your lists to NO-MAIL. Again commands go to the
1st address above.
So, as to generating activity, I'm always open to suggestions. My line
seems to suddenly appear in Ohio in 1790.
I have several in the CLARY census' in the 1830/1840 census data in Indiana.
Were they running an orphanage?
How do you suppose I might find out?
Remember, I can only generate so much myself. Here is where all you
subscribers can help; also note, we're wanting CLEARY, CLARE, MCCLARY,
MCCLEARY, etc. so how about it? Roll call?

I wait

much help,
but have no news, still looking for Elizabeth Jane Cleary, born in

I guess their son should be contacted and asked about providing permission
to have to book reprinted is there is that much interest. Obviously it
would be his choice about the matter, since the copywrite apparently belongs
to their son(s). But obviously they will have to be enough "subscribers" to
make a reprint fiscally viable..
