Bowes is only 3.6 miles from Startforth, your best bet is to use google maps.
I don't have any info on I.O.M I'm afraid. I used to think Clarkson was an uncommon name but not any more they come out of the woodwork like ants after sugar.

Yes, it seems it is in the same "neck of the woods". Seems like there are a lot of Clarkson's in that area. A little additional info. on my end, I found out that the register says she (Mary Anne Thompson) was of Bowes and he (George Clarkson) was from Startforth, do you have any info. on this Startforth area? ( I do not know the area well at all, it seems confusing as I have found it may have been part of North Riding Yorkshire back then but may now be part of Durham.) I do know that by 1829 they are on Isle of Man where there son George William was born, and then on to the U.S. by 1830/31. I know there is a John Clarkson and wife Eliz. Dawson nearby on the Isle of Man at that time, not sure if they are connected. It is cool that you are able to go back that far. thanks.

Hi,
I have a William Clarkson 1786, who married Elizabeth Atkinson 1811, of Roads House Bowes.
They were my 4th great grandparents as you will imagine I do have quite a few Clarksons down to myself.
I don't think I have the particular Clarksons that you seek but at least I have the right area.
Dave

I would like to find more information on the above person, who is my GRT.Grt. Grandfather through my Mother's side of the family. I know he was involved in church meetings with Mrs. Ingham of Mirfield, where they met at Blake Hall to begin with. I look forward to hearing anything of detail available, or could I be connected with a records office where this information would be available. Thank you
