I am not related to this person, his obituary appeared in the "100 Years Ago Today" column in the North Vernon (IN) Plain Dealer on 2-28-2011 for 12-23-1911. I thought it might be of help to someone.
Clarkson Death
John E., son of John W. and Harriet Clarkson, born in North Vernon on Jan. 24, 1870.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Luella. Surviving are siblings: James W. of Columbus; Rev. George W., Cecil and Mrs. Ovid Matthews of Brewersville; Mrs. Matilda Emery of Marion; Mrs. Everett Stout of Dupont and Mrs. Fred Abbott of Sulphur Springs, Texas.
He was married to Francis Ricket on Oct. 30, 1889, and they have four children: Mrs. Ben Amsden of Blotcher; Zelpha, Olen and Mary at home.
He died at his home two miles from Antioch. After eight weeks of hard battle with disease he bade good bye to all that is temporal and passed into the eternal Sunday, Feb. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at 41 years, 18 days.
His life was of hard manual labor. He, by his open hearted ways, had won a huge circle of friends. In his boyhood days he gave his life to God and the church but afterward became a prodigal.
Near the close of his life he came to himself and found himself in great want and said, "I will arise and go to my Father" and those who were by his bed in his last days and hours have assurance that he got the best robe and a ring on his finger and shoes on his feet.
The funeral occurred Tues., Feb. 14 at 10 a.m. at Union Bethel. The remains were laid to rest in Bear Creek Cemetery.
