I am trying to find information on my grandmother Lucy Clarkson. She lived in either Oklahoma or Kansas in 1924. In Apr 1924, she gave birth to twin daughters, who she gave up for adoption thru the Christian Service League of Wichita Kansas. The records show the babies were born in Grant County OK. Lucy listed her birthdate as Apr 3 1898 and her parents names as John and Mary Clarkson of Wellsborough Pa. She also stated that she was born in Wellsborough. I haven't been able to find her in the census reports. Any help would be appreciated.

I wish I could do something about DNA testing!
Its very unfortunate that my father died 10 years ago a CLARKSON from a long line of Clarkson from the Wakefield area, he had three sisters and one daughter.
All of his sisters had daughters. We have no male CLARKSON left in my direct line.
Regards
Gina
Roberta Estes is the Administrator of the " Clarkson, Claxon, Claxson, Claxton" lines. She is considered by many to be expert in her field, has given speeches on DNA Genealogy, and recently was interviewed in the New York Times. In addition to seeing if , or what, line you are related to, you would find out if you are Celtic, Anglo Saxon, Norse ( Viking) or perhaps Pict. You can also find out if your line is more probably Irish than Scots, although the Clarkson name IS Scottish, and comes under the Clan Cameron, McIntosh, or perhaps the Clan Chattan ( Clan of the Cat).
It is quite an adventure.
I am " the fellow from England " That Roberts spoke of, and it appears that I will never get a match.. but, even though I have NO matches at all, I have found out that I am Celtic Briton, probably of the Catevelauni Tribe of Essex, AND my family comes from Caesaromagus, ( Chelmsford) the Roman/ Celtic headquarters of the Iceni/ Catevelauni Civitas. I have also found out that my family has used EVERY surname listed above in quotes ! Also, once you get your DNA numbers, you can put those numbers in any DNA search engine and see where your closest matches are, including Police search engines such as used by the FBI and RCMP, although YHRD seems to be the most user friendly. These tools are all avilable online. However, a fairly large percentage will find that even though they have a PAPER trail on heritage, their DNA may tell a very different story !
Anyway, good luck to all in your genealogical endeavors.
Richard Clarkson

All Clarkson, Claxton and Clarkston , or any other derivative spelling for
that matter, are welcome. The goal of the project is to determine which of
the varioius lines are connected to each other and define the families. It
doesn't matter where your family is from. You may discover that you match
our guy from England, or the Virginia families, or who knows what you'd
discover.

To Sue and other Clarkson researchers,
My ancestor, Thomas Clarkson, was born in Virginia in 1710. His wife's
brother, Bluford Woodrum, was born in Franklin Co, Georgia. I see many
other similarities with your Clarksons. Did any come to Illinois or Casey
Co, Kentucky? I have never been able to connect Thomas with other
Clarksons. He worked as a clerk for Archibald Carr in St. Louis, Missouri,
and in Ohio.

This message is for Carly, who recently asked for info on John Clarkson who
died in Franklin County, Georgia:
The John Clarkson you are looking for may be mine. He was born May 26,
1765, in Goochland County, VA, and died Feb 9, 1832 in Franklin County, GA.
I don't know where he is buried but would like that info if you find it.
His parents were David Clarkson, b. 1737, and Anne Perkins, b, 1742. They
were married in Goochland Co. Aug 7, 1760, and both died in Anderson Co.,
TN, he bef 1722, she after. I believe they are buried in Dutch Valley
Cemetery. John was the executor of his father's will. I am not aware of
any Revolutionary War service; he would have been too young unless he
entered in the final year.
John married Sarah Lucinda Bookout, October 28, 1790 (NC ?) She was
daughter of William Bookout and Sarah Walker. I am not sure yet which
family of Walkers Sarah was from. There were many in early VA. The name
Bookout was likely spelled Boquet in early records, but have no info on
them. William's father
was believed to be named Joseph, but I have no proof. Perhaps they were
Huguenots as the name sounds French. The Huguenot community was in Manakin
Town in
Henrico Co., VA, just west of present day Richmond, and located on the James
River, founded c. 1700.
John and Sarah's daughter Keziah married William Pool, Feb 16, 1826, in
Franklin Co, GA. My line continues with Joseph, Keziah's brother. All
birth, marriage and death dates for the family were recorded in the Sarah
Lucinda Clarkson Family Bible, printed in 1818, the records copied and
notarized in
1947 by
a descendant. I don't know who owns it today.
David Clarkson's father was John Clarkson, who was Christened in New Kent
Co, VA, St. Peter's Parish, in 1710, son of David and Unk. John died in
Goochland Co in 1759. He was married to Mary. I am working on the theory
that she was a Purdy, but no certainty yet. Anne Perkins was the daughter
of Constantine Perkins and Mary Walker. Constantine was descended from
Nicholas and Mary, who lived in Henrico Co., VA, in early 1650s. David
Clarkson (father of John b. 1710) is believed to be a grandson of John the
original settler who owned a tobacco plantation in Charles River Shire (now
York Co, VA) as early as 1632
(according to his land patent found in Nugent), but there is an enormous gap
in county records, so I cannot prove that relationship.
Let me know if you have any other questions about the family. Also, I would
welcome any info from other subscribers that proves (or disproves) a
relationship between John of 1632 - 1656 in York, and David in New Kent in
early 1700s.
New Kent, of course, was formed from York.

First of all, I apologize for indicating that Thomas Clarkson was born in
1710. That was a typo on my part. He was born 1810 in Virginia.
DNA is not possible because he had three daughters, and I do not know the
names of any male relatives. I would estimate that the father of Thomas
Clarkson, b. 1810, would have been born between 1760 and 1792.

I can get back to John Clarkson (ca 1780, VA) but no further. He moved to
Shelby Co. KY and married there in 1804, then moved to MO where he died.

Could your Thomas CLARKSON be connected to the James CLARKSON who married
Mary ADAMS in 1777 -- their Thomas Peter CLARKSON married Elizabeth Clarke
in 1844 in Essex Co. They had only daughters.

I am one of four children born to Charlie Clarkson. I would like to post this obituary which I wrote for the Bishinik newspaper as I have seen obituaries for him which are either incorrect or incomplete. Specifically, Charlie married twice. He fathered four children with my mother (Karen Sue, Charles Jeffrey, Anne Kimberly and John Fredrick) and adopted his second wife's two children Gavin and Derek. He was born Charlie John Clarkson, Jr but most people called him Charlie or "CJ".
His obituary:
Charlie John Clarkson, Jr. passed away at his home in Austin Texas on June 10, 2004. He was 78 years old. Charlie was born in Electra Texas on September 11, 1925 to Maggie Louise Nale and Charlie John Clarkson, Sr. Maggie Louise was the daughter of Luann Fulton Nale and Robert F. Nale who were both original enrollees of the Oklahoma Choctaw Nation.
Charlie began his Naval career in 1943 and after WWII he received his college education through the GI Bill. After college Charlie married Zelda Lucille Lynch on October 20, 1950 and rejoined the Navy as an officer. During his time with the Navy Charlie was a combat aviator serving as a pilot in the Korean War with CVA-36 on the USS Antietam and with CVA-37 on the USS Princeton. In April 1953 his plane was shot down in Won Son Bay Korea, for which he received the Purple Heart. Charlie received a total of 10 Aviator Awards as well as numerous medals and decorations.
Charlie had a long and distinguished career in the Navy. In 1967 he served as the head of the Systems Analysis Branch for the headquarters of the US European Command in Paris France. In later years he served the Navy as an Intelligence Officer for the Nuclear Weapons Training Group in San Diego California.
On December 31, 1971 Charlie retired from the Navy and began his second and third careers in the private sector. On December 20, 1974 Charlie married again to Atelia Prince and later adopted her two sons from a previous marriage as his own.
Charlie was adored by all who knew him. He was kind and generous, soft-spoken and polite. Those who knew Charlie also knew of his passion for golf. An avid golfer until the end he came close to "shooting his age" on a number of occasions. He lived his life by the rules of the game often citing one of the primary rules of golf, "Play the course as you find it and the ball as it lies".
Charlie is survived by his former wife Zelda - daughters Karen Sue Clarkson and Anne Kimberly Clarkson, sons Charles Jeffrey Clarkson and John Fredrick Clarkson; current wife Atelia - sons Gavin Clarkson and Derek Clarkson, 13 grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
You will be remembered.
