Subject: Martha Walker Clarkson
For decades, the Martha Walker who married the two Clarksons, Henry and William, has been considered a daughter of Edward Walker Jr. and Mahala
Tussey of Mulberry Creek. In 1929, both a niece and one of Martha's own daughters said that Edward was Martha's father, and evidence does certainly suggest that she was raised by the couple. But she wasn't Edward's daughter.
Edward died without a will, and court records settling the estate repeatedly over the course of several years list all the children; Martha is never mentioned despite the fact she was alive at the time, and, since Edward didn't leave a will, there was no way she could have been cut out of the
estate if she had been his daughter. P. G. Fulkerson, who did, of course, make some mistakes but did know this Walker family, did not list her, either, as a child of the couple.
I'm really throwing this one out there to see if anyone has any clues whatsoever or perhaps knows of any record sources I haven't checked. There are obviously several possibilities, and if anyone has any evidence whatsoever, I would certainly appreciate it.
Some possibilities:
* Mahala Tussey may have married before marrying Edward, bringing a small daughter into the marriage who took the Walker name. Such things did happen all the time then, but I have no such evidence.
* Martha may have been a daughter of one of Edward's siblings; his brother William still eludes tracing. If he died young, he may have left a daughter that Edward took in. For that matter, she could have been the daughter of
one of Mahala's siblings, not all of whom are known.
* She could have been an orphan of a neighbor or something like that.
* Edward's older brother Joseph shows a female Martha's age in the household in 1830 who has never been traced if, in fact, she was a daughter of Joseph. However, there is a clear set of deeds settling Joseph's estate, and Martha Clarkson was not involved.
I remain a bit stumped on this one.

I am looking for any information on Hurley, born 12-16-1917 in Louisiana Missouri, to Homer Thomas Clarkson and Mary House Clarkson. He had a sister named Florence. He married Mary Jane Gregg and had two daughters both born in Alton, Illinois. In late 1953, Mary Jane and daughters moved to Indiana. He died in1978. There are two listed in Ancestry.com both having same birth date and both died in 1978, but one giving the middle name Hayden. Hurley Hayden married a Mildred Wooldridge in 1955. Are these one and the same? No marriage date was given for marriage to Mary Jane. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks,Liz
