I am looking for info on John Clarkson b.mid-1700's, d.1832 in Franklin Co., GA. I am descended from his daughter Kizziah. I believe his parents were David Clarkson & Elizabeth Redman, but this could be completely wrong. I noticed a few threads from a few years ago re: this line, but was unsure who to contact for info. I have 2 specific questions, in addition to info on his ancestry/descendants:
1) Does anyone know where the Phi Delta Masonic Cemetery is? (Where he is supposedly buried)
2) Was he a Revolutionary soldier, or just a Patriot who aided in the war effort? I saw info on this in Mize's History of Banks Co., but was unsure if this was my guy or not. If so, where can you find records of this?
Thanks!
Carly
Dear Clarkson family,
If you have been waiting to order a DNA test, now might be a good time to
order. Family Tree DNA has offered gift certificates for some tests. This
might also be a great time to give a gift of a dna kit to someone whose DNA
would benefit your family genealogy.
Details follow. If I can be of help, let me know.

Clarkson itself tends to be a Scottish name, and can be found as a Sept under various Clans. Clan Cameron, MacPherson, clark and also Clan Chattan.
It is also found in the English county of Yorkshire, and your Leeds also. In tracing back in England, should you get to that point, you will find many spellings... anything that SOUNDS like Clarkson , basically ( Claxon, Claxson, Claxton, Clerkeson) It is a bit like Smith, so, Good Luck :-)

I feel impelled to post this message to any Clarksons who are directly related to William Clarkson, b. 1774 in Virginia and his wife Barbary, also of Virginia. I am directly related to William Clarkson through his son, John C. Clarkson. I have had my Y-DNA haplotype tested as R1b1c7, which is the Northwest Irish Haplotype. My mtDNA from my mother is from group K.
William Clarkson decended from an early Irish ancestor and he would be R1b1c7 as well. I have been recently diagnosed with the autosomal blood disordered "Hemochromatosis" which is an iron overload disease associated with European and Celtic populations, especially the Irish. Eventhough this disease is not sex linked, it is very probable that William Clarkson, from his Northwest Irish origins was a carrier. My intent with this posting is to alert any Clarksons to the possibility of this disease and that they should be tested. The surname "Clarkson" is of Scottish origins, whose ancestors emmigrated from Ireland.... a long time ago. :-)
I certainly hope that this posting helps the readers of this message board. I do not mean to be an alarmist and I apologize in advance if this posting is inappropriate.
Sincerely,
Ray Clarkson

We would like to find a direct male descendant of William Clarkson/Clarkston
(b. 1774 in VA, died 1839 in Jennings, IN) and wife Barbara or Barbary (b
about 1775 in VA, & died 1841 in Jennings, IN)who would be willing to
contribute a DNA sample to the Claxton, Clarkston, Clarkson DNA project
(http://www.familytreedna.com/(jwbjgj2pwfqxmvrofwbtja55)/public/Clarkson-Cla
xton/index.aspx).
This William Clarkston was found in Shelby County KY from about 1810 to
about 1831, then found in Jennings County IN, where he and his wife died. It
is possible that this same William Clarkston was in Lee County VA prior to
locating to Shelby County KY.
1st generation descendants of William & Barbara are:
1 Mary 'Polly' Clarkston, born Abt. 1792 in VA; died Aft. 1860 in prob
Bartholomew Co, IN.
2 John C. Clarkston, born 27 Jun 1793 in VA; died 27 Aug 1861 in Jennings
Co, IN.
3 Hannah Jane Clarkston, born 12 Apr 1795 in VA; died 29 Sep 1875 in
Jennings Co, IN.
4 William Clarkson, born 1797 in VA; died 09 Feb 1837 in Jennings Co, IN.
5 Nancy Clarkston, born 1799 in VA.
6 Barbara Clarkston, born Abt. 1800 in Shelby Co, KY.
7 Henry Clarkston, born 1801.
8 Hiram Clarkston, born Abt. 1803.
9 Rebecca Clarkston, born 1805 in Shelby Co, KY. She married Electius
Thompson
10 Thomas C. Clarkston, born 1807 in Shelby Co, KY; died Bef. 1831.
11 Lawson K. Clarkston, born 17 Dec 1812 in Shelby Co, KY; died 28 Apr 1873
in Jennings Co, IN.
We would be willing to pay for the DNA kit if there is a volunteer willing
to contribute the sample.

I am so excited for years I have had a family history which included our James CLARKSON connected to the Peter CLARKSON/Ann CONSTERDINE family of Blackley, Manchester, England. James was born 1749 to Peter and Ann, BUT there was another James buried in England so there was some confusion of whether my James who settled in Essex Co VA was really connected to the Peter/Ann family. Now through researcher in England and in Austrailia we have a book about a Elkanah Clarkson, a great-nephew which includes a letter from my James CLARKSON, the weaver in Essex Co VA to his brother back in England. Isn't the internet wonderful?
