Subject: Clarksons of Witton.
Hi,
An ancestor, Thomas Clarkson, was born in Witton, Northwich, around 1802. He had moved away probably by 1823, when he married Sarah Greaves at Manchester Cathedral, and certainly by 1828 when one of his children was born at Middleton, Lancashire. From the details on his second marriage certificate I know his father was a coal dealer called James.
Has anyone come accross Thomas Clarkson, born about 1802, or James Clarkson, a coal dealer, in the Northwich area around that time.
(The various directories and census information on the Northwich website don't list either and have very few Clarksons).
Thanks for any info,
David (Dom) O'Malley

FORMER MAYOR CLARKSON'S BIRTHDAY
Former Mayor George G. CLARKSON will celebrate his 92d birthday to-day at
his home on Alexander street. He was born in Edinburg, and at an early age came
to this country with his father. After a short stay he returned to Scotland
for several years, coming again to Rochester in 1813. For many years he was
president of the Rochester Athenaeum. He was elected Mayor of the city in 1874,
and since that time has been connected with local financial institutions.
For many years he was president of the Western New York Institute for Deaf
Mutes.

I am looking for any kind of information on my Great Grandfather, Arthur William Clarkson married to Sarah Jane Hermon, they had five children, two born over in India, Maude was my Grama.. They were both born in the county of Berkshire, he served with the 40th Regiment of Foot over in India ........I have his diary dating from 1872 to 1876....at which time he was what they called a "hospital writer". If anyone knows anything about the Regiment or of his family name I would enjoy hearing from you.
thanks
