The Clarkson's are wide spread in Indiana. For the most part they seem to have miagrated from Virginia to Jennings County Indiana by way of Shelby county Kentucky. What do you know of your ancestors?

10517 MEADE CO - CLARKSON, JAMES - Clarkson, Moremen, Herndon, Yates,
Shrewsberry, Vanmeter
#10517: Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, Volume 1, 3rd edition, 1886, Meade Co.
JAMES V. CLARKSON was born April 14, 1858,
at Bowling Green, but in infancy came with his parents to Grayson Springs, where he grew to manhood, and in December, 1881, moved to his present home
in Meade County.
His father, Manoah P. Clarkson, was born December 28,
1810, in Campbell County, Va.
He began life as a deputy in the office of the Hardin County Court clerk. Following this he engaged for a time in clerking in the city of Louisville, after which he engaged in farming; and
later became a partner in the celebrated Grayson Springs, where he has since lived, having been postmaster there since 1839, at which time he was appointed by the Postmaster-General under Jackson. Notwithstanding his advanced age he still writes as steadily as a young man. He is a son of James F. and Elizabeth (Moremen) Clarkson. Manoah P. Clarkson has been twice married; first, about 1835, to Miss Zerilda, daughter of David and Mary (Moremen) Herndon. To them were born Fannie Z. (Yates) and Oscar
(deceased). His second marriage was solemnized October 25, 1856, with Miss Sarah F., daughter of Jacob and Martha (Shrewsberry) Vanmeter. To them were born Jacob V. And Clinton K. (deceased).
James V. Clarkson as married, December 8, 1881, to Miss Nannie L., daughter of James L. and Mary
(Moremen) Clarkson. To them one daughter, Mary F. (deceased) was born. He is the owner of 257 acres of well improved land, besides which his wife owns 100 acres. He is, with her, a member of the Methodist Church, and in
politics is a Democrat.

I have a Joel Cook in Russell Co whose daughter married James Clarkson in Russell Co in 1795. He was therefore born probably 1775 or before. Could be be a brother of John, Jacob and Henry Cook too. What were their ages? I have found a very limited amount about this family as well.

My ancestor, John Utley b. 1720 VA d. 16 Mar 1762 Goochland Co., VA married Ann Lewis b. 1725 Henrico or Goochland Co., VA. The father of Ann was John Lewis and unknown mother. John Lewis had three daughters, Judith m. John Dikes, Ann m. John Utley and Lucy m. James Seay. Any connection between your William Lewis and John Lewis?
Then the son of the above John Utley is another John Utley b. abt 1747 Goochland Co., VA d. Nov 26, 1824 Mercer Co., KY m. Nancy Clarkson. The witnesses who signed the will of John Utley are Walter Harris, Lambert Banta and GEORGE ROBARDS. Any connection with your Robards?
I realize this does not answer your question concerning the wife of your William Lewis but I couldn't help but wonder if there is a connection between my ancestors and yours since they were both in Goochland Co., VA and Mercer Co., KY. They must have all left VA together and lived near each other in Mercer Co., KY.

I have found this couple on the One Great Family Website (www.onegreatfamily.com ) . It gives quite a few generations of descendents and also ancestors back to about 1570 or so.
According to this person's research, your James Clarkson was the son of Andrew Clarkson and Mary Wright. Andrew was the son of James Clarkson and Grizzell Muir. James was the son of William Clarkson and Mary Currie. William was the son of James Clarkson and Grizal Williamson.
I am a descendent of James Clarkson and Grizel Williamson's son Benjamin Clarkson who is the brother of William Clarkson.
