A post on the Clarkson mail list in June of 2004 with some editorial comments regarding relationships which were incorrect and was sent by Mary Buchholz (Date: Wed, 30 Jun 2004 )so I am addressing this to her. It is possible she did not search a bit further for the information so I am sending this as a FYI to any who are interested: Below is listed an advertisement published in the Virginia papers in 1804 regarding a suit complaint in Chancery , however the ACTUAL complaint can be found on the USGENWEB.com Lousia County under heirs of George Medlock. The relationships of these people were found in the complaint and answer to this Chancery suit which was obtained from the LVA and posted by me on the USGENWEB.
For you Clarkson researchers: Mary Elizabeth Medlock/Matlock was a SISTER to the George Medlock who died in 1800 in Louisa Co Va . She married John Clarkson and had the following children: Fanny Clarkson who married Henry Carter; Catherine Clarkson who married Thomas Jones, Lucy Clarkson who married Joseph Dodd; John Clarkson and James Clarkson.
The other relationships found from this Chancery suit were:
George Medlock was BROTHER to: Col Charles Medlock who died in Warren Co Ga in 1797. Col Charles Medlock from Hanover Co to Anscon Co NC and then Warren Co. GA had the following children:
1. George Medlock who died in Warren Co Ga in 1800 and had children:
(GRAND children of Col Charles)George DeLayfette Medlock, Mary/Polly Medlock and Agatha Medlock.
2. Ann Medlock Jordan - married Wm Jordon..died in Ga
3. Isreal Medlock whose son was Charles Medlock (GRANDson of Col Charles)
4. Keziah Medlock Hailey who married Silas Hailey in Anson NC -(GRANDchildren of Col Charles)William, Charles, Agatha, Henry and George Hailey.
5. Henry Medlock - m. K. Sanford and had daughter (Grand child of Col Charles Medlock) Susannah Medlock.
The father of George Medlock (d. LOUISA Co VA 1800) and Col Charles Medlock (d. 1797 GA) as well as their sisters: Mary who married JOHN CLARKSON, Hannah and Ann is believed to be the George Medlock who was baptised at St. Peter's Parish of New Kent County in 1701 as the son of John Medlock Jr. It is also believed that George Medlock b. 1701 married a Hannah Trotman and their children were born in Hanover Co from abt 1722-1732. Mary Medlock later Clarkson is believed to have been born abt. 1732 or earlier.
This was the post of June of 2004 with out the editiorial comment on relationships which can be found in the archives of the Clarkson mail list.

My G2 grandmother, America Jane Clarkson, daughter of William Clarkson, Jr., md. Benjamin J. Mattingly in 1843 in Bracken County, KY. They later moved to Jennings County IN per the 1850 census. I thought that she had died in the early 1850's as all four of their children were placed in a Louisville orphanage between 1851-1854. That was wrong however and she lived until 1905 in Monroe County IN. I cannot find what happened to her husband though. I have traced all of their children, except their last child, Clara, who was born in 1852 and was blind. She was educated in the Louisville Blind Asylum. In 1883 she bought some land in Monroe Co. as a resident of Clark Co, but I cannot find her after that time. Thanks for any help. Barb
