Hello,
I guess this is just a question of curiosity rather than knowledge but I
don't see any Noah WITT listed in the 1880 Harlan Co. What I do see in the
1870 and 1880 is someone who looks like "a" Noah WITT. Is this correct?
CLARK and CLARKSTON are often the same name.
1870 Harlan Co.
Dwelling 17-17
CLARK, John, Sr., 62, b. VA
. .Sarah, 55, b. VA (per Janette and Gertrude NOLAN's annotated 1870, they
state this is the d/o William and Mary McKINNEY)
. .Margaret A., 26, b. KY * *
. .Virginia, 16, b. KY
Then moving forward to the 1880 Harlan Co., we have:
Dwelling 296-298
CLARK, John, Sr., 70
. .Sarah, 65, wife
. .Virginia, 25, dau
Living next to them is:
Dwelling 295-297
CLARK, John, (no age listed)
. .Marget, 35, wife (looks like the Margret from the 1870)
. .Noah, 18, son (looks like it could be Noah WITT?)
. .Martha, 15, dau (perhaps another child of Margret?)
. .Eva, 8, dau
. .Sarah, 6, dau
. .William, 2, son
Backwards to the 1860 Harlan Co., this same family appears as follows:
Dwelling 714-714
CLARKSON, John, 52, b. VA
. .Sarah, 50, VA
. .Frances M., 22, VA
. .William, 21, VA
. .Margaret, 18, b. KY * *
. .Thomas, 16, KY
. .John, 14, KY
. .Virginia, 8, KY * *
McKINNEY, Mary, 70, b. VA
As of the 1860 Harlan Co., there was only one WITT present in Harlan Co.:
Dwelling 737-737
KELLY, William P., 23, KY
. .Sarah Ann, 22, b. TN
. .John, 3, KY
. .Martha, 6 mo's, KY
WITT, John, 24, b. VA * * *
Interestingly, this family is living right next to my gg-grandparents, John
and Rebecca BAILEY BROWN
Is this correct?

The sons of John Jay, the Chief of Justice, were:
1. Peter Augustus (1776-1843), a lawyer, and
Married 26 Jul 1807, Mary Rutherford Clarkson (1786-1838)
2. William (1789-1858), a lawyer, and writer, and judge, who married
Augusta McVickers.
I Have Hannah Augusta McVickar (Whos Who in America)
His daughters were:
2 Susan JAY
Born circa 1780, died in infancy
2 Maria JAY b: 20 Feb 1782, married Goldsborough BANYER
2 Ann JAY b: 13 Aug 1783 d: 13 Nov 1856
2 Sarah Louisa JAY b: 20 Feb 1792 d: 22 Apr 1818
The grandsons of the Chief of Justice, in the male line, were: 1) John
Clarkson, son of Peter Augustus, a physician;
I also have a Peter Augustus, brother of John Clarkson, possibly died in
infancy.
and, 2) John, son of William.
Married Eleanor Kingsland Field.
Though his descendants are many, he certainly had none in Britain before
the early twentieh century. After that.... anything is possible.
Two of William Jay's daughters, Eliza and Augusta, married in successsion,
Henry Edward Pellew, 6th Viscount Exmouth.
His third daughter, Anna, married Hans Lothar von Scheinitz. Their daughter
Eleanore married Freiherr von Trott. Their son Adam von Trott was implicated
in the 1944 plot to assassinate Hitler. [Source: The Parting of Ways by
